Our next scheduled meeting is on Thurs., May 15 at 1 pm in the Arts and Crafts Room. Barbara Kenyon will be our demonstrator and will show us some new techniques about "Art Using Torn Paper." A few changes have been made in our club: 1) We have changed our name to the "Four Seasons Art League;" 2) We will have a general meeting with a demonstrator every other month, rather than every month. There will be no meeting in June, but we will have one during the months of July, September, and November; 3) Exhibitor's names for the gallery in the Lodge will be chosen every three months, rather than every two months. During the month of May, Sherry Hutson and Jane Pearce will share the gallery wall as exhibitors and Lois Stipp with her students will be showing their artwork in the cabinet. If you wish to exhibit either your art or crafts, please fill out the form and put it in the box in the Lodge. We will inform the people who are chosen three months in advance of their actual display. Our talented and experienced teachers offer many classes including acrylics, tole painting, tatting, memoir writing, watercolor, drawing, calligraphy and more. For information about these classes and upcoming workshops, check the clipboards and sign up in the Arts and Crafts Room. Please contact Barbara Kenyon at (951) 537-8779 with any questions about our club and its activities. Four Seasons Art League Our Featured Artist: Nancy Hawkins Nancy Hawkins is known, affectionately, as "The Mailbox Lady" for her popular paintings of mailboxes. She has played a very active role in coordinating the gallery wall in the Lodge and is now serving as vice-chair of our club. Here is her story: I was retired for two years before my husband, Jerry, and I moved to Four Seasons just over two years ago. We lived in Ohio in a suburb of Toledo, hometown to us both. The year we had 58 inches of snow we decided it was time to move to some place warm. My son and his family live in Murrieta, close enough to see them and the grand kids, Mark and Becca, easily. We came out here with one week to find a place to live since our home sold so quickly. I like to think Four Seasons chose us because the moment we drove through the gates we knew this is where we wanted to be. I was a research librarian for the Toledo Blade Newspaper for 23 years, doing all kinds of background work for the reporters and editors for their stories. No artwork was involved. So now I get to pick up where I left off in high school. I get to do artwork again! I always wanted to be an artist and occasionally I dabbled in it. Life and work (a great job by the way) and kids (great kids, too) and… poof, I'm retired! Now I get to do my artwork! I have been taking advantage of the talent Four Seasons has to offer with a painting class by Barbara Kenyon, a drawing class by Lois Stipp, a pastel portrait painting class and more recently, a plein air class by another one of Four Seasons gifted artists, Andre Lohnert. One of my "Bucket List" dreams has come true. I have had a picture I painted hanging in the Esplanade Art Gallery and I have sold some of my paintings. What a thrill it is for me to be an artist after all these years! 21 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | 22
