Before there was TV in most households, friends, neighbors, and family would gather at the local park or meadow and would play games. They would bring their favorite things to eat and share with friends or even an occasional stranger to show off their amazing culinary items and cuisine. The Bocce Club took a step back to the past to enjoy something very similar here at Four Seasons. We had close to 60 players who signed up for the Bocce Scramble games in March and got together to play different teams to their choosing. At the very last game, we gathered at the barbecue area to cook, fix, and enjoy some different goodies. It was very enjoyable just to sit and relax with our neighbors, and talk about the games or food, and just enjoy the outdoors. For those who were not camera shy, we took a group picture to add to this article to show that we have a great community with lots of things to do here, and lots of friends to visit. We talked about playing bocce just a bit different that added more excitement to the game with just two players to a team. A little different technique, a little different approach and some say a little more challenging. We encourage all our friends and neighbors to come sign up when our regular season begins in September and experience something different here. There will be a great schedule of activities for the club this season but we need you to be successful. Watch our news article in the Hemet Herald for information. Info., Bocce Chairperson Ross Brunetto at (951) 926-8295. Bocce Club Pickleball Pickleball is alive and well at Four Seasons! On any given Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning, beginning at 7:30 am, you can find a group at the pickleball courts. Pickleball is played on a scaled down size tennis court, with a small racket and a hard wiffle-like ball. We play doubles and switch partners after every game. The hardest part is keeping score! We are open to all players, all skill levels. We have extra rackets and balls, so come on out, we'll teach you how to play. We also like to get together socially. For more information, please contact Maggie Aguirre at (951) 325- 8116 or Leonard Gleason at (714) 318-4591. Come on out and join the fun. For the month of April, we tried something a little different on the clubs off season. We also hosted a Shuffleboard Scramble somewhat similar to the Bocce Club. We mix up teams for a match of their choosing and on our last game in April, we assemble at the barbecue grill area for a great cookout and group picture of the players. We can't tell you in this article how many of the players liked or disliked the four week schedule, but we know we had lots of players requesting to try this when we are not playing our regular scheduled games in the fall. Those who played for the first time had lots of suggestions from our best players, but watch out, we have seen beginners luck wipe out the best players. We encourage all of our neighbors and friends to sign up for our regular season starting in August. If you have a physical disadvantage, that will not stop you from playing. We have players with similar disadvantages and they were able to play and compete in the Championship game. We also had many of our regular players who have no problem walking out to the courts, play the four week Scramble. Thank you in advance to those who participated and if we get positive feedback, we will do this again next year. For information about the club feel free to call the Chairperson Ross Brunetto at (951) 926-8295. Shuffleboard 31 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | 32
