Social Committee Again, we owe a big thanks to our chair, Dana Inslee, the liaison, Carolyn Lebo, and their very talented team of volunteers for another beautiful and delicious Ladies Luncheon (photos above). It is always such a treat for the ladies of our community to look forward to this event. Wasn't it fun shopping for our white outfits? We always expect the decorations to be outstanding and again we were not disappointed. Our big event for May will be Fiesta de Mayo on May 3. Our chairperson, Char Weakley and her special volunteer team have organized a wonderful fun-filled evening with Latin Music (www.SombraQuieta.com) and Francisco's delicious Mexican food. We know everyone will enjoy this event. The 4th of July co-chairs, Margie Culton and Connie Bunge, and their committee are also hard at work planning this special celebration. It will be a very patriotic event with a special tribute to our veterans complete with a parade. John Baranek and Russ Brown are coordinating this. One of our talented residents, Sandy Kunz, has volunteered to sing some patriotic songs for us and lead us in sing-a-long. Resident ticket sales start May 27 at 10 am. Since this event is held on the Plaza, we will have room for anyone who wants to bring guests. Guest tickets will go on sale June 10. The Plaza should hold everyone who wants to celebrate the USA's Birthday Party with the residents of Four Seasons. We appreciate all the hard work that goes into the planning and execution of these parties. We want everyone who is interested to have a chance to participate so let the committee chairman or the social committee know if you want to be involved. Now that spring is here we want everyone to have a chance to enjoy our gazebo and garden that is situated next to the Lodge. The staff will be adding a few more tables and chairs. If you want to have a small get-together in the garden, please schedule it with Louise Cecceralli, our Activities Director. | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | 10 9 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | May Tip of the Month: If you live alone it is imperative that you, in addition to having an emergency contact system, have someone you can check-in with daily who will be alerted if you fail to contact them because you are incapacitated. I know of several instances where people could have been saved if they had not been left in bed, or on the floor, for days! This someone could be a neighbor, friend, or family member. And, everyone should have emergency information and contact information like Vial of Life, or File of Life, kept current and readily available. An internet search for either of these will lead you to an on-line, downloadable form. We want to thank those who have made the effort to complete and return a family Information and Resource Assessment form. The response has been very good, and we will use that information to create a Community Resource and Disaster Response Database. If you haven't done this yet, please take the time to fill one out the next time you are in the Lodge Foyer. So why do some of us (the EPC and Street Captains) take the time to take special training like Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), CPR or Red Cross First Aid courses? Because we believe that should a situation occur that taxes, or incapacitates, normal emergency services (fire, medical, or police), it is better to have some plan in place that can mitigate the impact on our Four Seasons community, than not have any plan. So we meet, and train, and plan, on a regular basis to prepare for such an event. Please consider joining in--even if on an irregular basis, as every little bit helps! Our meeting time and dates are on the Newsletter Calendar. For the most part, thank goodness, emergencies that occur can be handled within our household, or by calling for assistance from "First Responders." Such occurrences do not require involvement with neighborhood volunteers or escalated emergency services. At most, planning for them requires little more than a home first-aid kit and possibly an emergency contact plan, or something like a Vial of Life form for more extreme events.
