11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2014 | 12 Crumbs from Cookie: I want to briefly mention Dr. Giannelli's informative talk in March on diabetes. We thank you for the wonderful attendance and intelligent questions for the doctor. I was pleased she stayed afterwards for more questions. She is a keeper, and is invited back to speak on other issues. It's a week before Doctor Dean's talk on strokes and TIA's. Hopefully our attendance will be equal to March. The speakers are not paid or even fed cookies! I have read Dr. Dean's credentials and once again we have one of the best doctors for a full hour. Let us know if there are other health issues you are interested in learning more about. Leave an envelope at the desk marked "Cookie." We still hear residents ask what is Sunshine about? Our main focus is to sponsor a "celebration of life" when a spouse passes away. It can occur at the Lodge in Four Seasons or in your home. Recently we sponsored a celebration at the funeral home. Our dedicated team will do our best to take as much off your shoulders as possible. We provide drinks and sweets at either place chosen for the celebration. We decorate the Ballroom and provide a "personal item table" that is handled with love. If it is at your home we will put out the food, make the drinks, and greet guests that arrive early. Secondly, we are a resource guide to you for needed help. We know a couple of caregivers that we can provide information for you to contact them. It isn't a recommendation per se; we are just passing our knowledge of them to you. We can provide some meals when a major illness prevents you from cooking. You can order and pay for your food from the Bistro and we will pick it up and deliver it to you. We send cards and call when we have been made aware of your illnesses. We also have a wonderful prayer circle. To request prayers fill out a paper in the Multipurpose Room and put it in the box provided. And, everything is confidential. We cannot stay at your house to take care of someone ill. There is a liability issue and you would want a medical person to begin with. If you are bonded and can help others, please contact Cookie so the Sunshine Team can meet you. We do have a large list of medical equipment that we lend out. Walkers, canes, wheel chairs etc. If you need a certain item please call Jeanne Lincoln or Leola Kindt to track the item down for you. Lastly, we provide a monthly speaker that we believe will help us in health issues or other kinds of knowledge. All of this is free and lovingly given to the residents at Four Seasons. There was a problem recently. Letters of need were not passed to the Sunshine Team. We only know of two residents that filled out a "needs list" that we knew nothing about and hope there wasn't more. The person responsible doesn't work at the front desk anymore. If you have asked for help and haven't heard from us please fill out another "needs list." We send our heartfelt thanks to Margo Bailey, daughter of our own Lalia Smith, who donated her scooter to the Sunshine Club. One of our members is in charge of selling it, the funds going to Sunshine. We exist strictly on donations. We appreciate this so much. March was a hard month for Four Seasons. Our own team member, Colleen Rosenberger, lost her beloved Mother, Beulah "Mae" Crossman at age 94. She passed at Yorkshire House in Hemet. The funeral service and celebration was private, just the family. Our love and sympathies are with Colleen and family. Vicki Ellis lost her wonderful husband, Lester in March as well. Lester was a Vietnam vet. He proudly served in the Marines. We had a personal table that displayed many of his treasured items. A Celebration of Life was held in the Ballroom hosted by Sunshine. We send our love and sympathies to Vicki and her family. Our love and sympathies are with Richard Kunkle and family. His wonderful wife, Doris, of over 60 years, passed in March as well. A celebration of life was held by her family at the funeral home and hosted by Sunshine. A beautiful picture of Doris as a young woman was posted in the Lodge and loved by all who viewed it. Our love and sympathies go to the family of Ray Cantwell. Ray passed early April. Ray was active in many areas in Four Seasons and will be missed. His daughter, Sue, held a celebration of life for both Ray and his wife June who passed several years ago. June was talented and so sweet. Four Seasons will miss them both. For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our sympathies and love to you and your family. May rays of sunshine help you heal. Sunshine Team "Those Who Bring Shine To The Lives Of Others Cannot Help But Bring Shine To Themselves" TIDBIT from Donna: "People of all ages and body types can benefit from regular physical activity. National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is a great time to spread the word about the benefits of getting active. Here are just a few benefits of physical activity: Adults – Physical activity can lower risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. Older adults – Physical activity can lower the risks of falls and improve cognitive functioning (like learning and judgment skills). We have many exercise programs right here at Four Seasons. Check the Hemet Herald for times and locations. Ray of Sunshine Quote: "Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me." ~ Carol Burnett, US actress & comedienne (1936 - ) Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who needs assistance. Also, if you have knowledge of a friend or neighbor who is living alone, please let them know of the Healthy Elder Life Program 888-983- 5337. They will assist in many ways, including daily phone calls. Also, our bulletin board in the Multipurpose Room has current contact and resource information continued from page 11 continued on page 12
