The May "Seniorz Prom" was a delightful night of dancing and listening to great music by our 14 piece live band with Nanette, our talented chanteuse. Prom dress-up was the order of the evening and the ladies were lovely and the gentlemen very handsome. The photos taken by Ed Avina will be ready by sign-ups on July 16 or at our next dance on July 24. This article would be remiss if it did not include our many, many, thanks to our Sun Lakes Mystery Theater group for relinquishing their precious rehearsal time in the Ballroom so that the Big Band could play their free concert previously scheduled for the Veranda. Our gratitude abounds. Our next Big Band dance is Thurs., July 24, doors open at 5:30 pm, music starts at 6 pm. Sign ups are Wed., July 16 – table selection at 1:15 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Come celebrate a USO dance with us; hurray for the red, white, and blue. Dance price: $10 pp members - $15 pp guests. Checks only please. There will be bar service and hors d'oeuvre menus on the tables for purchase. Wow! We just completed our 21st year. This year, from August though May, we learned 33 line dances, 10 different couples dances, and were able to show these accomplishments at our Country Western Ballroom dances. To all residents, if you think you might have an interest in our club, we will have a free introductory dance in August. No charge and no obligation. Just come see what our club is about and, if you want, learn one or two basic line dances and a basic couple's dance. The introductory dance will be Fri., Aug. 22, at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Mark your calendar and plan on coming. Check out our Lifestyles article in July and August for more details. We would like you to know that Country Western dancing is unique in that everyone, singles and couples, are equally welcome to come learn a dance, meet some friendly people and have a good time. Not thrilled with country music? We dance to many different music styles including rap, pop, Latin, Italian, French, rock or to any other music we like. Country Western Dance Happy Father's Day to each and every one of you. International Dancers accomplished nine successful performances in May. Each show was special as were the Clubs requesting them. Some are already requesting repeat performances for a later date. International Dancers are busy practicing for our very special September dinner show for Sept. 13. We hope calendars have been marked. More information will be forthcoming. For all residents on vacation this summer, have happy and safe trips and don't forget to come back home. We hope that each of you has completed last month's challenge by visiting one of the three libraries to find that perfect book that best reflects the mood and joy of Mother's Day. We hope you were able to share the enjoyment of the novel with one another. Your new challenge for this month is to visit one of the three libraries to locate one of the library volunteers and thank them for their hard work. Whenever you are in or near one of the three libraries, please look around for someone filing books and generally organizing the room and shelves and thank them for their efforts! If you would like to be a part of the volunteer group, please contact Jill Falat at 797-3263. Thanks for being a volunteer! The April Book Fair was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who participated. By buying the discounted books, we were able to clear space on the library shelves to display newly acquired material. The next Book Fair is Fri., July 4 in the Main Clubhouse from 10 to 2 pm. This new Book Sale will be a part of the overall holiday celebrations of Independence Day at Sun Lakes and we invite each of you to take a few minutes to browse through and buy the books identified for sale. When you buy a book please be sure to ask for your free cookie! If you have any extra books that you would like to donate to the library, please drop them off at the collection boxes located in each of the libraries. If you have any questions, contact either Peggy Inman at 845-8609 or Russ Anderson at 845-9414. Remember: donated books should be published in the year 2004 or later due to limited space being available on the shelves. Happy reading and we hope to see each of you browsing for your favorite books at one of the SLCC libraries located throughout Sun Lakes. Library Committee Restaurant & Lounge Committee a very fIne chef For the past six years the Sun Lakes Country Club Restaurant Chef, Dustin Freely, has presided over a very productive kitchen. He was a favorite of the staff and patrons of our restaurant. He set a standard for anyone following in his footsteps. Recently Dustin was called away by family commitments. We wish him all the best. We will miss him personally and professionally. Delicious Dining… The Restaurant and Lounge Advisory Committee discussed the plausibility of purchasing a portable dance floor to be used on those evenings when the Lounge entertainment is moved to the Sandwedge. After discussing the cost, set-up, and storage issues, it was decided not to pursue the issue at this time.
