The United States has had a diversified population ever since the beginning of its history. In search of a better life, people have come from all parts of the world bringing their traditions, religions, and customs with them. Customs regarding food have probably been assimilated easily because we all like to eat regardless of where our forefathers originated. April 25, the Happy Cookers enjoyed sampling the foods from sections of the United States such as East, Midwest, South, West, and 'other'. Members volunteered to bring foods popular in their state or country. Following the business portion of the meeting, we enjoyed tasting food samples. Everyone enjoyed the foods and requests were made for a cookbook based on the recipes as well as a future program featuring foods from a variety of locations and ethnic groups. Clearly, it was a program that everyone found both interesting and taste tempting! Mother's Day was May 11, but Happy Cookers dedicated the tea to honor past, present, and wanna-be moms on May 4. The event honoring mothers was a High Tea that took place in the North Clubhouse, which had been transformed into a lovely tea room complete with pink satin tablecloths and flowering centerpieces of the same color. Each table had choice of two kinds of tea served from antique teapots into cups of similar vintage. Servers presented guest a very attractive array of scones, sandwiches, and cakes and between courses there were contests as to the funniest, cutest, and most unique hats and the mother having the most children (5), grandchildren (15), and great grandchildren. Connie Cutner, Co-Vice-President of Programs welcomed participants and then introduced Mistress of Ceremonies, Patricia Sedlacek. Patricia emceed in place of President Joan Nolte, who is recuperating from back surgery. Without a doubt, the Happy Cookers High Tea was a very gracious and enjoyable tribute to Moms that will long be remembered. Our next meeting will be held on Fri., May 23, 11 am to 12 noon. Kristi, an organic farmer from Highland Springs Resort, will present a program entitled, "From Farm to Table." Learn how the food Kristi grows is on the table within hours of being picked from the garden. We will also learn about lavender since June is Lavender Festival time. Remember "Those Fabulous Fifties?" We will doo-wop back in time to at our June 27 meeting. By all means, "dress up" for the occasion. Happy Cookers
