Sun Lakers & Friends Tuesday Bowling League Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes The 2013/14 winter league is history, and in the opinion of this writer, it was a great league, and even though we are seniors, there were some great scores posted. We started the season with 20 teams, 80 bowlers, and finished with 78 bowlers, and that is an accomplishment. Most bowlers participated in the "sweeps," and after the dust settled, we paid off the first eight bowlers for both men and women. This was in conjunction with the point money they won as a team. Team, "Lucky 13" (Ray & Lawanda Roberson, Faye & Herb Bearden), finished in the top spot, followed by team "Four Play" (Ken Smelker, Mitzi Tanaguchi, Martie & Marv Steggell) in second place. The summer league has started with enthusiasm, and will finish in mid- August. If you want to save the summer months for relaxation and vacations, but wish to join a bowling league for next fall/winter, the organizational meeting will be in the Ballroom on Aug. 25. Mark your calendars, dust off your equipment, and join us in August. It has been my pleasure to serve as your president for these past five years, and wish only success to Rich Bly as he takes the reins with the summer league. ~ Bud Miner Sun Lakers III CO-CHAMPIONS FOR WINTER BOWLING AT CANYON LANES: The Pinbusters (Pat & Herb Watson, George Johsz & Gene Sax) and Shoulda Binz (Elaine & Cleo Higgins, Rolly Freeman & Bob Cochran) each registered 67 wins to share the winners circle in the Wednesday bowling 18 team league which concluded in mid-April. Our Pizza Party was a huge success! Our heartfelt thanks to the kitchen for doing such a good job! We had in the neighborhood of 280 attendees and the staff kept the pizza coming. If you missed it, you missed a good time! The Spring Tournament is in full swing. We've had a little problem with rain and wind, but we've carried on. The Summer Tournament begins the week of June 16 and ends late in August. Keep in mind, play begins at 5 pm and goes through 8 pm if need be. The time change is our effort to keep our players cool! If your team is planning to sign up for the summer, entries must be in by June 6, so hop to it! As always, entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There's a box at her door. If you need a team or just a player, Dutch may be able to help. Our club has been asked to participate in Charity Week. On June 19 a Monster Scramble will be held on the Executive Golf Course. The bocce board is working on some ideas for a test of skills on the courts, in conjunction with the Scramble. We're going to need some volunteers to help work our carnival games If you would like to help us out, let one of the board members know or call Dutch, 845-0392. We'll need to man the games 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. It should be a fun time! You'll want to be a part of it! Friends of Bocce
