Currently we have three man-made trails and the Edison easement dirt road for adventurous walkers. Two trails (A & B) straddle Potrero Creek and run in a north-east, south-west direction. The third trail (C) is perpendicular to them. A fourth trail (D) will be built in the Phase D-E area later and will connect Trail C to the southern arc of Four Seasons Circle. These trails are made of decomposed granite rock that permits quick drainage, stability and minimal plant growth. Astride these features are purple irrigation pipes to maintain native plant life. When the city of Beaumont brings their water recycling plant online, reclaimed water will be used. For now, potable water fills these pipes. The builder and the Association promote the "country" atmosphere along these trails. Minimal amounts of water to sustain the plants are sprayed during the nights. When the watering cycle is complete, pipes are emptied by water draining from the lowest sprinkler. This runoff may run onto the trails and walkers should step around it. During the late spring and summer plants will flourish and crowd the trails in some places. Periodically it is cut back but trails are sufficiently wide for walkers to pass each other without difficulty. This build up of plant life promotes animal life along the trails. All walkers should be constantly alert and aware of their surroundings when walking the trails. Coyotes, bobcats, snakes and other fauna have been spotted in these areas. The basin areas along the trails become noisy in late spring as frogs serenade would-be mates. Redwing blackbirds perch on tall reeds surveying insect activity. Wildflowers bloom and perfume the air. At dusk rabbits emerge from boroughs in search of supper. Is walking the trails dangerous? If the trees could talk, they would whisper that when walking along Four Seasons Circle, just wear appropriate footwear, stay alert and know where you are. The recently installed trail signs will help you know where you are if you need assistance. Enjoy your walk.
