16 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2014 | COMMUNITY NEwS COMMUNITY NEwS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2014 17 Spring is a time of changes. Some changes are good and some changes are bad. The good changes are warming temperatures and awakening of plant life from their winter hiatus. The bad changes are warming temperatures and awakening of plant life from their winter hiatus. Some changes we embrace and some changes we abhor. We are, after all, human and fickle. In the Pass Area changes always arrive with the wind. This year the wind has been more quixotic than normal. Late April and early May winds have resembled their September and October cousins. These very hot and very dry Santa Anas are more destructive in spring than in autumn. Budding plants with shallow root system require constant moisture and are easily uprooted. Trees that are leafing out fight to hold onto their new greenery and topple or break in the hurricane like wind gusts. Four Seasons is not immune to these natural phenomena. The ever changing wind direction confounds our best water conservation efforts. For our landscape contractors it is the most demanding time of the year. Turf mowing doubles from bi-weekly to weekly. Watering switches from daytime to nightly. Weeds struggling to reproduce before their demise sprout everywhere from planters to sidewalks to street cracks. Plants that did not awaken cry out to be replaced. Trees give birth to catkins, a slim, cylindrical flower cluster, with inconspicuous or no petals, that quickly drop and litter our yards and walkways. Cottonwood trees live up to their calling flooding yards with a mantle of puffy white, lawn mower clogging, fuzz. And, pollen fills the air to start new life and complicate our senses. By June the time of change passes and summer begins to settle in. Blossoms populate our gardens and trail sides with yellows, reds and purples. Bedding plants highlight our front yards. Hummingbirds are raising their newborns. Trees are fully leafed and providing welcome shade. Another cycle is underway in this place we now call home. ~ Leonard Tavernetti Landscape Committee At our April meeting, the financial statements for March were reviewed and reflected the following significant items: Net Income Year-to-Date was $102,771 and total reserves were $4,177,476. The Accounts Receivable (delinquencies) was $48,663. Our total HOA expenses for March (excluding reserve allocations) were $195,324. This was under budget by $33,478. There were three CD renewals reviewed and a recommendation to renew at the best prevailing rate not to exceed six months was sent to the Board. The Front Yard Cost Center expenses for March 2014 were under the monthly budget by $2,283. The Springdale Cost Center Expenses for March 2014 were under budget by $106. There was one vendor proposal presented and sent to the Board with recommendations for approval. The report from Safety & Facilities regarding the painting of the Springdales was received. The report recommends that the wood painting be postponed for one year to 2015 and the stucco painting moved up by one year to 2015 and the two combined to lower the overall costs. This recommendation is being passed on to the Board for approval. The revised year-end CPA report from Catherine VanDerPol was reviewed and approved for disbursement to the membership with the understanding that it is accompanied with a letter of explanation and the costs of the mailing is to be paid by the CPA firm. Our next meeting is June 24, at 1 pm in the Lodge Conference Room. All homeowners are encouraged to attend. ~ Noel Myers Finance Committee The warm weather is back. Many homeowners are getting ready to start home improvements or modifications to the existing landscape. Please review the HOA guidelines to verify if your project needs to be approved by Architectural Review Committee. Exterior paint, front yard landscaping, initial rear yard landscaping, patios, patio covers, walkways, planters, built in barbeques, spas, in-ground and above, satellite dishes, screen doors and front entry doors are just a few of improvements that need to be reviewed and approved. If you should have questions with regard to applications you can speak to Fabiana at the HOA Lodge office. Applications need to be submitted prior to noon Monday, preceding the meeting for consideration that week. We meet on June 4 and 18 at 9:30 am. ~ Ron Burke Architectural Review The Rules & Regulation committee wants to thank those residents who took the time to complete and comment on the survey for use of our indoor fitness pool. We had great feedback from over 300 residents. We anticipate year-round lap swimming and fun pool activities in the near future. The committee meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Board Room and all residents are welcome. ~ Barbara Miller Rules & Regulations
