The other candidate on the ballot, Barbara Kwiatkowska-Amerton, finished third. Just two seats were open. The vote was Staples, 467; Sneddon, 380, and Kwiatkowska-Amerton, 224. There were also four write-in candidates: Brooks Adams and Willis Fagan each got two votes and John Noonan and Dale Beckes each got one. For the first time in a Four Seasons Board election, all 13 voting districts had a majority of voters casting ballots. That meant all votes were opened and counted. Under the complex voting rules in the CC&Rs, if a majority is not reached, the district delegate casts all the district votes as he or she sees fit without opening the ballots. If a majority is reached, the delegate is obligated to vote the district's total voting power in the same proportion as those cast — which happened in every district this time. Sneddon credited the Lodge staff with getting out the vote. Staff members started calling non-voters a week before the election and "continued right up until the votes were scheduled to be opened," on April 22. They also asked residents if they had voted when they dropped by the Lodge. Sneddon said she expects the Board "will continue to make progress on our projects and work for the continued benefit of the community." She also said the efforts of the HOA committees and their members have been vital to the Board's work. "Without them, we would not have been able to accomplish as much as we have." Staples said he thanked everyone who voted for him and that he will "continue to watch our finances and keep us a viable community." It was Kwiakowska-Amerton's second try for the Board. She ran unsuccessfully against Board Vice President and Secretary Lauren DuChesne last year. He has a year left on that term. The three homeowner members on the seven-member Board serve two-year terms. The other four members are appointed by the builder, K. Hovnanian Homes. That will continue until build-out, when all seven members will be elected from the community. In the election, voters also overwhelmingly approved last year's annual meeting minutes and a provision allowing the Board flexibility in dealing with IRS on some tax matters.
