COMMUNITY NEwS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2014 9 Neighborly Notes By Bobbie Eckel Happy June! I hope everyone is taking advantage of the Beaumont E-Newsletter which is published on the second and fourth Friday of each month. In the April newsletters, you learned about the real-time bus tracking by Beaumont Pass Transit, the discounted green fees available at Oak Valley Golf Club, sewer and trash increases effective July 1, and upcoming events such as Low Cost Animal Care Clinics and specifics of the Relay for Life. If you would like to receive the newsletters, visit the city website www. BeaumontCares.com. If you receive Westways, the magazine for members of the Automobile Club of Southern California, be sure to read the article in the June 2014 issue about Water Loss Myths. The author discusses what is commonly covered and not covered for water damage by various insurance companies. Water damage is the most common claim received by insurers and the stacks of computer-generated forms that a homeowner can receive can be quite daunting. One suggestion from an insurance agent is to have a plumber check your pipes and supply lines every seven years. He also suggests that the roof should be checked at least every year. On a more cheery line of thought, the construction of the Recreation Center #2 is progressing well. Take a walk or drive by the site at least every two weeks to watch the changes. The 95th annual Cherry Festival will be held in the city of Beaumont from Thursday, June 6 through Sunday, June 9. The Cherry Festival annual Car Show actually precedes the Festival; that event is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at Stewart Park starting at 10 am. Carnival Grounds will be Stewart Park for the musical groups. (The entertainment line-up includes Seville Street Blues, Beau Hodges Band, Music of the Beatles, the Basix, Peaches and Herb, the Superfreaks, Ghost and the Machine and Wild Child plus other not-yet-announced musical groups.) The Festival also includes a pancake breakfast at the City Hall on Saturday, June 7, from 6 to 10 am and a Cherry Festival Parade following which begins at 10:30 am and includes over 80 entries, including Grand Marshals, fire engines, bands, horseback riders, cheerleaders, antique cars, and planes flying over the parade route to kick off the parade. Bring the family! Please take a few minutes to make sure that the Lodge does have your up-dated emergency information. As we get busy with our numerous activities, we tend to forget how important it is that Euclid Management knows who and where to call if you need assistance or your family needs to be aware of situations. Do you know how to use the Gate Resident Directory box? It is for guest use when no gate attendant is on duty. Renee Watkins, Facility Coordinator, provided the instructions: "Guests should drive through the entry next to the gatehouse, stop at the Directory and enter the first letter of the last name of the resident. Scroll through the listing until the resident's name is highlighted. Push the call button and the resident will be telephoned. The resident will then push "9" on their telephone and the gate will open for the guest to enter." "If a resident does not have his transponder and needs to use his personal entry code, the instructions are different: First press # and then enter the four-digit personal entry code in the directory box. If there is a delay between entering numbers, the system will require that you start over. If your entry is successful, the system will emit a beep tone and the display will show OPEN when the valid code is entered on the keypad. The gates will then open." The Playhouse Bowl is looking for volunteers to join its working Board as well as volunteers for the August concerts. They are a 62-year-old Banning institution offering free concerts Thursdays in August. Volunteers should care about building community through music. The Board meets the first Monday of every month at 6 pm in Banning at the Community Center typically. Volunteers should contact President Lynette Espinoza at (909) 286-6496 or by e-mail at lmetink@aol.com. For more information about the Playhouse Bowl go to the website at Playhouse Bowl. Its major fundraiser is the WildWestCharityBikeRide.com taking place on June 7. Finally, two thoughts for the day from Maxine: 1) If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for? 2) If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it Fed UP?
