11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2014 | 12 Crumbs from Cookie: Doctor Dean's talk on strokes and TIA's was just fantastic. Residents were coming up to me all week saying how much they enjoyed her. I passed the information on to Jennifer Trebler of Hospice who is instrumental in securing most of our doctors and she asked Dr. Dean to be part of our Health Fair. How did you enjoy the Health Fair? If it was as well attended as last year, we will continue to plan one for May each year. Your attendance at our programs each month guides us in choosing our topics. Speaking of programs… last June we had Susie Proctor speak on her experiences as the first woman in combat. I am still excited about her talk. During her talk we were informed that her husband, Chris, was involved in "Black Hawk Down." I have been eager to get Chris Proctor to speak at Four Seasons and he will be speaking in June! If you have been in Temecula and noticed the flags on their light posts honoring our military, you have seen both Susie and Chris Proctor flying high. Mark June 18th on your calendar today and help honor the Proctor family for their service. If you were part of our 90s celebration in February, we have a few pictures on the bulletin board in the multi-purpose room. Feel free to take your picture. If you received the Press Enterprise, Sun., May 4, there was a beautiful article about a woman who was able to leave her hospice room to visit a ranch with horses. She bonded with a miniature horse named Munchie. It was the first time the woman had left her room in five years. This is a touching story and I mention it because our own Jennifer Trebler was involved. One of our favorite speakers, Mark Venckeleer, arranged this and it was Jennifer's ranch. How privileged Sunshine feels to work with people of this caliber! We send a special thank you to Jean Helberg-Cahir for her kind donation to Sunshine in appreciation for "all you do for us: Our community." This was following Ray and June Cantwell's Celebration. Jean asked how we support ourselves. The Sunshine Team survives strictly on donations. We have several members who always volunteer to help set up and decorate the room or home to honor one of our departed residents. There is a call list of Four Seasons residents who want to help by baking wonderful desserts to be served at the celebrations of life. We consider them our extended team members! We still could use a few more volunteers to help the "clean-up" process. All of this is provided free but we do incur costs. Actually, your donations purchase the paper products, drinks, and all those cards that Trish sends out each month. This makes you part of the Sunshine team as well. Four Seasons is a very special community! We have recently become aware of two Four Seasons residents who are bonded and offer adult sitting. We can provide names and cards strictly as your resource guide. We can't recommend anyone but we can pass the information on. We send our love and sympathies to Susan Gaites and family. Susan lost her beloved Eddie in April. Eddie was a vital part of the Four Seasons golf club. The outpouring of love from Four Seasons was evident at his Service with over 250 guests. Sunshine provided the desserts that followed a feast provided by his church. He will be missed by all. For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our sympathies and love to you and your family. May rays of sunshine help you heal. Tidbit from Donna: June is National Safety Month. Is your family ready for an emergency? Planning ahead can help keep you safe if a flood, fire, flu pandemic, terrorist attack, or other emergency strikes. Get prepared. Start by gathering an emergency kit and making a family emergency plan. Plan ahead. Here are a few simple items you can gather today to prepare for an emergency: • At least three gallons of water for each member of your family. • Food for at least three days – choose foods that don't need a refrigerator, like canned fruit, energy bars, peanut butter, and crackers. • Prescription medicines that you take every day, like heart or diabetes medicine. • A first aid kit to treat cuts, burns, and other injuries. Remember that any changes in the landscaping around your home, such as artificial turf, patios, removal of lawns or trees, slabs/walkways, painting using different colors, decorative stone/rock, shrubs/ground covers, walls/fences/gates, flag poles, security doors, sheds or garage doors all need pre- approval by the ARC. We are here to help you. Call if you have any questions or need assistance. Architectural Review Committee The winds that hit our community last month were destructive to say the least. However, here at Four Seasons, our common areas escaped major damage. We were fortunate that our landscape maintenance contractor (O'Connell) had recently completed their tree trimming. What perfect timing! The trimming allowed the winds to blow between the branches and not greatly affect the trees. As a reminder, please continue to complete the required forms when you observe any landscape related issues. Forms can be obtained at the front desk located at the entrance to the Lodge. The completed forms provide a method to properly track work to be done. The forms also allow the Landscape Committee to coordinate other work or projects within the area being addressed. There are times when it might seem that some landscape issues are not being addressed. The reality is that we take into consideration the financial, aesthetic, and maintenance impact that projects have. In addition, timing is considered. On occasion, projects that have been approved or are in process require coordination. It would not be prudent to have landscaping installed, only to be trampled when another project follows.
