Library Committee Welcome to your Four Seasons library. Without YOU there wouldn't be a library. Thank you for all the donations. We work hard at keeping it organized and continuously shelve returned and new book donations. We also donate books to the downtown public library that we cannot display, helping them to stay open. We are really in need of audio books on DVD as few people have cassette players any more. The committee hopes that our audio CDs are in transit with the RV Club. We only have a couple left. It would be great if you donated some of your collection for others to enjoy. Thank you in advance! We have been aware that 50 percent of our movies for our grandchildren are missing. We don't want to start locking that cabinet, which would require you to check out a key for your grandchildren to choose a movie, but we may need to. Would you please check your home and see if you have a movie that you need to return. Thank you. Help us to keep the library current. Please donate hardbound prolific authors from the year 2000 up. Our paperbacks are 2010-2014. The magazine rack holds three months of donated material. As of this newsletter please bring April, May, and June for us to display. Our non-fiction section is filled with biographies and a broad range of interesting topics. A travel section was started and we could use more books. Check them out in the lower shelves. We never accept technical books and the downtown library doesn't accept them either. We have had a problem lately with someone using the library to make business calls. Sounds innocent, but they are shutting the door to the library. There are some who won't enter while the door is closed. Please, the door must remain open at all times. The committee and residents thank you. Cookie read Orange Is The New Black by Piper Kerman. Though it is non-fiction you will find it in our paperback selection. It is well worth reading. Piper's memoir follows her through her youth and what I believe to be a story about the "me generation's" way of thinking. She was well educated but longed for adventure. She found it in the form of Nora Jensen, a new neighbor. A romantic relationship began along with learning the drug trafficking trade. The relationship ended along with the drugs. A new and wonderful relationship evolved with a friend, Larry. Ten years later her drug carrying past caught up with her and she was sentenced to 15 months in prison. This is where the fascinating story begins. If you are thankful you didn't go down the wrong path, this story will reinforce your decisions. Our penal systems are filled with problems and the women's prison has special situations. The book is filled with compassion towards the women she meets in prison. There is both humor and despair, and you are completely pulled into their world. I could not put the book down. Take a breather from your "who done it" novels and meet the women of the federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut. 13 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2014 | 14 Facilities Committee Homeowner safety and security has always been a prime consideration for projects that the Facilities Committee considers, working closely with the Access Control Committee. Three recent projects that the committee has proposed to the Board for approval are the installation of a fence west of the upper Masters area, the installation of speed bumps at the exits of both the Main (Four Seasons) gate the World Cup gate and the installation of added street lights (solar powered) along Four Seasons Blvd. By the time you read this, the street lights should have been installed. Take a short walk after dark this summer along Four Seasons Blvd. and see if you think this improves safety. The fence is planned to help reduce the access non- resident may have from the western end of our property. It will be a 7 ft. high chain link fence with a barbed wire top. Again, as it has been stated before, although nothing can make a community like ours completely secure, this fence will help slow down motorized vehicle and other intrusions. Installing speed bumps at the exits will have two beneficial actions. First, the slowing of vehicles at the exit will help prolong the life of the tire spikes that prevent wrong way access. Secondly, speeding at the exits is a safety concern this will help control. As always, your Facilities Committee continues to request your input about any needed maintenance, improvements, and upgrades to the common Facilities of our beautiful community. There are forms at the Front Desk of the Lodge to communicate these suggestions to us.
