From the President – Henry Negrete: DOCTOR, DOCTOR… The days of summer are fast approaching and I want to take this opportunity to remind our membership that with the heat comes a variety of problems. First and foremost, we must consider the fact that our golf club is comprised of senior members of our lovely community. Sure, we are an active group, but, as my politically correct family doctor tells me, "you're not as young as you used to be." Really! That goes without saying. However, he also added "you must take it under consideration that you should not be acting like a kid anymore." In other words, know and understand your limits and you will be much better off. The first order of business must be that each member of our club truly understands warm weather and problems associated with heat. In hot weather conditions, golfers must know how important it is to remain hydrated. Each player should know that keeping your body hydrated means drinking plenty of fluids. Better stated, you begin to drink your fluids early in the round. Do not wait until you begin to feel thirsty or dizzy before you begin to drink your fluids. Waiting may increase the possibility of becoming dehydrated, something all of us must avoid at all costs. The second most important warning I can share with you is the fact that we also have critters that live in our wonderful community and love to come out during warm weather. Rattlesnakes, in particular, make their home here in Hemet and are dangerous to your health. We must be careful when out on the course and remind ourselves to be fully cognizant of our surroundings. In other words, keep an eye on each other. Most important, do not go looking for a golf ball in the thick brush, wearing shorts and without a club in your hand. Please, I beg each of you, always take a club and/or a ball retriever in your hand if you absolutely must look for a ball in the brush. We can prevent and avoid potential injuries if all of our participants remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings. Keep a close watch on other members of your group. Should any player not look right, appear wobbly or look faint, it is time to sit them down, under some shade if possible. Please don't take any chances. Should the situation warrant calling 911, do so. Do not hesitate! The game, well, it's just a game and not worth taking unnecessary risks. In chatting with club members, I find that we do not lack the knowledge nor do we lack the expertise to solve and cure just about anything that ails us. If you have a physical problem, or are suffering from a certain condition, talk with other members of our club. You will find expert analysis, remedies and cures for anything that needs a cure. We have cures for almost anything. Ask and you shall receive. Our weekly games are held regularly on Tuesdays starting at 7:30 am. Come and join the fun. We continue to welcome new members — men and women — to join us and enjoy the warming weather and of course the camaraderie that we share with one another. New member applications are available from the Lodge receptionist. Should you have any questions about joining our club, please contact Ross Thomas, (951) 325-2019 or rthomaspa@yahoo. com From the Rules Chair – Cliff Post: Recently it came to my attention that there was some misunderstanding concerning 'ball out of bounds.' It seems that some thought that if you found your ball and that it was just out of bounds, that you could take a one-stroke penalty, move your ball two clubs length (making it in bounds), and play it. No can do. A ball out of bounds cannot be moved in bounds for any amount of penalty stokes. If it's out, it's out. If in doubt, play a provisional. If you didn't play a provisional ball and you discover your ball is out of bounds, you must go back to the spot where you played your last shot and play your next shot, with a one-stroke penalty. From the Social Chair – Ellen Walsh: A huge thank you to the Masters Of Barbecue who helped prepare a wonderful meal on Tues., May 27th. Also a big thank you to Francisco of The Bistro who allowed us to store our perishable items in his facility. Now is the time to mark your calendars for the upcoming Memorial Tournament Awards Banquet, which is scheduled on Sat., June 28, starting at 5:30 pm. You will have a choice of a marinated roast tri-tip served with au jus, potato and vegetables, or chicken piccata served with vegetables and pasta primavera. Both will have a mixed green salad with choice of dressing available. As always, a vegetarian meal will also be served. When you purchase your tickets, please advise your menu choice at that time. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, June 3rd, prior to the golf games at the front desk in the Lodge. Lynn Smith and Jay Robinson are again busy obtaining door prizes for this fun event. Blair Becker and Russ Brown will be working very hard to prepare an entertaining slide show for us to enjoy. Thank you for your continued participation!
