4 OUR YUCAIPA | JUNE 2014 | CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE | OUR YUCAIPA | JUNE 2014 5 Mission Statement The Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting a vibrant business environment by cooperative interaction among business, government and community For more information, call (909) 790-1841 • Fax (909) 363-7373 35139 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa, CA 92399 info@yucaipachamber.org "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." - Helen Keller I traveled to Denver for a conference with fellow Comfort Keepers franchisees and the franchiser. During these yearly meetings, I get to see old friends and meet new ones. I would like to share a few tidbits of my observations while in Denver. The original owner who started the Comfort Keepers franchise system sold her concept about 10 or 11 years ago, but still owns her original office and a couple more. She still ensures we are taking care of our senior citizens with the highest of standards. Colorado has added at least one new law on the books since the last time I was there (about a year ago on a motorcycle ride), which has changed the fragrance of the city. While we had refreshments on the outside patios there was a very prevalent smell and while the smell is not supposed to be in public areas, it was, and I don't think they had homes next to the Sheraton. We had the opportunity to interact with "retired and inspired" motivational keynote speaker, Lee Cockerell, who gave an outstanding presentation. Mr. Cockerell was in the leadership at Disneyworld, Orlando. A few things I picked up from his presentation: • Mickey Mouse can never, ever have a bad day! • Disney doesn't make much money on little boys, maybe they get a sword, but does from little girls. They start with a princess dress and then accessorize and add more and more. I can attest to that for I have one daughter and granddaughter and they are season ticket holders to Disneyworld. Thank goodness for well trained staff. When I am out of town, I know that our standard will be carried on without me having to be there to oversee everything. I have to brag on our staff a little, we could not do what we do without them. Hiring the right people is so vital to your business. I learned a long time ago to surround myself with individuals who can perform at a higher level than I, so when I'm out and about, all goes well. A big thank you to all of our office staff, and our wonderful Comfort Keepers. You are the cornerstone of our business. ~ Jim Hammond a message from the chairman 2014 Board of Directors Chairman, Jim Hammond Comfort Keepers Chair-Elect, Nancy Kenny PrimeLending Finance Vice-Chair, Jason Ross Law Office of Linda Roberts-Ross Directors Dr. Cheryl Marshall Crafton Hills College Dora Ordonez Asaderos Restaurant & Supermarket Cheryl Benton NuSkin Eric Vreeman YCJUSD Jeff Dewan Edward Jones Financial Advisors Lynnette Alvarado Wildwood Canyon Villa CHAMBER STAFF Pamela Emenger, President/CEO Ellen Benefiel, Membership Development Coordinator AMBASSADOR TEAM David Avila, Retired Cal Fire Battalion Chief Cheryl Benton, NuSkin Pamela Brierley-Vengarick, Good Nite Inn Marlyn Crampton, Yucaipa Rotary Club Jeff Dewan, Edward Jones Marie Feuer, Life Path Healings Brandy Gomez, Law Office of Linda Roberts-Ross Debbie Harber, Sequoia Digital Marketing Nancy Kenny, First Choice Loan Services Michelle Lopez, AVON Dora Ordonez, Asaderos Supermarket 2: SBHBB Committee Meeting 8:30 am, Chamber office 3: Ambassador Committee Meeting 11:30 am, Kopper Kettle Kafe Farmers Market Committee Mtg. 4 pm, Chamber office 4: Executive Committee Mtg. 8:30 am, Chamber office Planning Commission Mtg. 6:30 pm, City Hall 5: SBHBB Breakfast 8 am, City Hall Community Room, 34272 Yucaipa Blvd. Ribbon Cutting at Sublime Designs 10 am, 12145 5th St. 6: Yucaipa Certified Farmers Market 6 - 9 pm Entertainment: Yucaipa Band Slam Winners: Hoity Toity Community Services Night 9: City Council Meeting 6 pm 10: Yucaipa First!
