11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | July 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | July 2014 | 12 Crumbs from Cookie: I was so disappointed that I had to miss the Health Fair in May! Minor eye surgery kept me away. I spoke with Jennifer Trebler about it and, although the attendance was less than last year, she felt it was well attended. The presenters give their time to us free! Attorney Ron Doty was present to answer questions about VA benefits and spoke to many residents. I would have liked to have had my legs scanned to see if the picture showed any signs of a clogged artery. I was told one person was told to see their doctor regarding the findings on the picture. If one or two residents benefited from attendance, it's well worth sponsoring the event! If there is something you would like to see next year at the Fair, please let us know. I hope Chris Proctor's talk had a full house. My grandson attended with me. The Proctor's are a family to be honored for their service to our country. We were honored to have Susie Proctor as the first woman in combat speak last year and then Chris from the experience in "Black Hawk Down" to speak at Four Seasons this year. In August we will have Dr. Koka back to speak on nutrition and osteoporosis. She is one of our favorite Doctors with high energy and quite pretty! We usually have several men present for her talks! I have been the lead in Sunshine for three years now and we have had some remarkable speakers and great programs. It occurred to me that there hasn't been any kind of recording of the different events. I presented a new position for our management team members of Sunshine Historian. Our newest member, Linda Michlevitz, volunteered immediately. The management team is so willing to help in any way needed. I wish I had thought of this long ago but from now on we will have pictures of speakers and the residents who attend and support Sunshine. We will never impose ourselves during a Celebration of Life without full permission. In a few months we will have a Sunshine Scrapbook of 2014 joining the Social Committee's scrapbooks in the library! We so appreciate all of our extended Sunshine members who bake goodies for our Celebrations of Life. You are providing goodies filled with pure love. We need your help in making it easier for the clean-up volunteers. Please arrange your goodies on plastic plates that we do not need to return to you. Leola had a challenge at the last memorial rearranging desserts to free up plates to be returned. The dollar stores have some nice looking plastic plates that paper doilies can dress up. We appreciate you so much! Thank you for helping us. One important member of our team, Charlotte Townend, has been very ill for several weeks. We send Charlotte our love and pray for a fast recovery. We need you! A couple of reminders, you can leave ideas for programs at the front desk in an envelope marked "Cookie." Also, leave suggestions for future Health Fairs at the desk. There is a prayer box in the Multipurpose Room under the Sunshine Board for prayer requests. The prayer circle is separate from Sunshine and your requests are completely confidential. The requests are not discussed at our meetings. Feel free to seek help spiritually if desired. They are a wonderful group. We send our love and sympathies to Michael Smith and family. Beloved Georgiann passed away suddenly in early June. She was a courageous woman always filled with a positive attitude. A Celebration of Life will be held here sponsored by the Sunshine Team. Georgiann will be missed by all who knew her. For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our sympathies and love to you and your families. May rays of sunshine help you heal. Tidbits from Donna: Leading the nation to improved health and wellness through parks and recreation. America continues to feel the strain of a serious health crisis affecting adults and young alike. One in which we are plagued by poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, and unhealthy habits. But there is a solution with little to no cost and is available in nearly every town, city and community – local parks and recreation. The scientific evidence is mounting that parks and recreation are building healthier communities and top health officials in the country – U.S. Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – validate that parks and recreation are a critical solution for our nation's health epidemic. Ray of Sunshine Quote: "A day without sunshine is like, you know, night." ~ Steve Martin Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who needs assistance. Also, if you have knowledge of a friend or neighbor who is living alone, please let them know of the Healthy Elder Life Program 888- 983-5337. They will assist in many ways, including daily phone calls. Also, our bulletin board in the Multipurpose Room has current contact and resource information Sunshine Team "Those Who Bring Shine To The Lives Of Others Cannot Help But Bring Shine To Themselves" The springtime activity has been busy, with the installation of patio covers and landscape changes. Solar installations continue to be brought forward. We see some requests for exterior painting: please note, all residences must receive prior written approval from ARC before changing the house color. With the continuing concerns regarding drought, note installing or replacing grass with artificial turf (grass) must also be approved. Recommended turf specifications and criteria are available at the Lodge. The ARC suggests that each resident read through the updated Architectural Guidelines, especially those planning to change or improve their existing landscape. We are here to help you. Call or come into the Lodge if you have any questions or need assistance. HoLidAy scHeduLe FoR tRAsH pickup CR&R (the trash pick-up company) observes New Year's Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If the holiday falls during the week, collection for the remainder of the week is one day behind. For example, if New Year's Day is on a Tuesday, and your normal collection day is Thursday, your collection day will be Friday. If you have questions, you can check out this link to the city of Hemet: www. cityofhemet.org/ index.aspx?NID=239. Architectural Review Committee The roundabout improvements in front of the Lodge have been approved. Construction will begin within a few weeks as of this writing… perhaps by the time of the July mailing of the Hemet Herald. The Landscape Committee selected an appropriate fountain as a centerpiece. The design calls for lighting that will bring the fountain into focus during the early night hours. The surrounding plantings have not been selected as of now. However, plants will be selected that are compatible with the adjacent Garden area. Our landscape maintenance crew is in the process of evaluating the options available for selection. The selection of a fountain as the centerpiece was decided upon after careful consideration of several factors. Options included a variety of trees, shrubs, roses, and various flowers. The committee evaluated associated costs and maintenance. All of these options were motivated by the desire to enhance the visual content of the Lodge and Garden area. Imagine, while driving up the main driveway to the Lodge, the visual impact of our new fountain with our Lodge in the background. Visitors to our Lodge will certainly take note. It is sure to present the elegance we have come to appreciate. Landscape Committee
