Years of accumulation have been gone through and much has been discarded in the general reorganization of the materials kept on hand for future productions. Recently we have resorted to not building complete sets on the stage due to a lack of the muscle required to build, put up, and take down the essential flats. Lightweight flats are being considered to make the use of sets more practical. Minimal sets are very popular in many venues but we have always wanted to put on plays that better satisfy the play-goers sensibilities. We are busy preparing for the annual instrumental concert on Aug. 3 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. It will be performed by Maki Ishii Sowash and professional musician friends of hers from Japan. This has become a highly anticipated event when our residents can sit back and relax to the perfection of classical music presented by true virtuosos on their instruments. Maki Sowash is a featured violinist with the San Francisco Opera and always performs extraordinarily. The tickets go on sale July 21 in the Main Clubhouse Lobby with ticket prices of $10 for the concert and an extra $5 to enjoy a champagne reception which follows the concert. The reception will be a meet and greet with the performers and other members of the Drama Club. If you have any interest in performing or just belonging to a group that truly enjoys the production of quality theatre and the interaction of its members at monthly dinners, other theatrical events in the area please contact Rose Hermanson at 769-9810 for more information. Drama Club We're sure that you have heard the old adage that "timing is everything." Nothing could be more profound. If you were fortunate to be on "campus," and also have possessed the significant wisdom to have seen the value of purchasing advanced tickets for our recent hoot of a farce, "Sex Please, We're 60!", then you are blessed to have a secure sense of timing, and fortunate enough to have witnessed one heck of a play! What and understatement! And what a wonderful job of casting! Our director, Lou Evans, had the uncanny ability to lobby, plead, beg, and coerce, to get the six thespians she recruited for these wonderful characters, to accept these roles, and then put their hearts and souls into making them believable! The roars, shrieks, guffaws, and downright side-splitting laughter from the audience was a testament to the performances portrayed by our comic geniuses. This will be only play that we will stage this year and if you missed it, it's a heart breaker and a downright dirty shame! However, be comforted in knowing that our counterparts in the Drama Club will be staging a very entertaining play in October. Better not miss that one! For July and August we will be enjoying a restorative sabbatical. We meet again in September, but that doesn't mean our group will be out of touch. We all have an assignment over that period so that when we return we can hit the ground running in the formulation of all of the details that will be required to bring our next "That's Entertainment" production to the stage in late February, 2015. We have the title, "Guys & Dolls (& More)"; and we have our director, Michael Owen. Michael will be ably supported by our production team, in which we have amassed years and years of song and dance experience. This show will, for certain, be another hit in the annals of what our community has come to expect as the show that will somehow, miraculously beat last year's show in pure entertainment chomps. Stay tuned; details are sure to follow in the October edition of Lifestyles! Info., Bill Shova, 845-0547. Mystery Theater & More We meet from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Sat., July 12, in the Main Clubhouse.
