THANKS! Thank you to the 16 residences who opened their backyard gates for the Sun Lakes Garden Home Tours. As usual, everyone enjoyed the many beautiful and varied gardens. This was an opportunity for all of us to enjoy your beautiful gardens. It also gave newcomers to Sun Lakes the chance to meet new neighbors. SAFARI ANYONE? Our next meeting is Wed., July 9, at 10 am. Woodie Catalano will be taking us on an African Safari. Many of you will remember when Woodie was here before sharing his beautiful pictures. ONIONS FOR SALE: We will be selling onions, grown by our very own gardeners at Dysart Park, for $1 at our July meeting. For more info., call Janna at 797-3859. TRIPS: July 11 – Lake Arrowhead Boat Trip with narration of some of the homes on the lake owned by famous people. Aug. 4-7 – A three day trip traveling to Squaw Valley, Clovis, and Fresno with visits to underground as well as above ground gardens. Sept. 25 – Sunnylands Gardens and Visitor Center at Chiriaco Summit. Flyers are available at all meetings and at Evelyn's home at 1607 Fairway Oaks. Info., Evelyn, 845-7199. GOLF CART PARADE: Be sure to look for our decorated cart in the Fourth of July parade. MEMORIAL TREE PLANTING: If you have lost a loved one and they lived in Sun Lakes, you can have a tree planted in memory of your loved one. It is done two times a year, in the spring and in the fall. Info., Carolyn, 769-9888. FRUIT PICKERS: If you can't use all of the fruit on your trees, we will come out and pick the fruit and donate to local charities. Info., Doris, 769-3990, Pat, 769-0316, or Marlene, 769-6696. SEES CANDY: We sell Sees peanut brittle, lollipops, and gift certificates at all of the meetings year long. GIFT BAG ITEMS: We collect shampoos, soaps, lotion, etc samples that you get on trips and make gift bags for charity organizations. Info., Helen, 797-0407. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION: We also collect Box Tops for Education, Campbell Soup labels, used cell phones, eye glasses, stuffed animals and small suitcases or backpacks. Doors open at 6 pm, show starts at 7 pm. "Poperazzi" blurs the boundaries between classical and popular music. This new dynamic vocal trio recently burst onto the Symphony Pops scene delighting thousands with their diverse vocal prowess and captivating stage presence. From opera to rock, Pavaroti to Prima, Sinatra to Jersey Boys, these versatile entertainers are like a classic Vegas martini, performing a delicate musical mix of opera with a twist. Tenors George DeMott and Cody Shawn Gay and soprano Janien Valentine make up Poperazzi. This explosive trio's original style is uplifting, and energetic with performances that are not only relevant to today's Pop-Opera genre but groundbreaking in its originality. These diverse entertainers have worked in some of the premier opera houses in North America and Europe as well as being featured in some of the top shows on the Las Vegas Strip. Poperazzi's Symphony Pops shows feature a captivating and varied span of musical styles celebrating the music of Italy and songs popularized by Italian Americans. The shows are delighting audiences with Symphony Pops Orchestra performances across the United States and Canada including New Year's Eve with Atlanta Symphony as well as Houston, Edmonton, Jacksonville, Pasadena, Modesto, Detroit, Corpus Christi, and Naples, Fl. They were recently featured on PBS from Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to performing on cruise lines as well as corporate events internationally, Poperazzi enjoys headline entertaining at casino showrooms in their home base of Las Vegas. George Demott is a classically trained tenor, Cody Shawn Gay brings a remarkable diversity of vocal range, musical talent and performance experience. Soprano Janien Valentine has been singing and dancing since age five and her professional career began at 16 when she landed a recording contract with Amherst Records. On Aug. 10, "From Broadway, The Friendship Club Presents "Swinging to the Met," featuring the lovely lyric Soprano Melissa Batalles and the smooth, sultry voice of Troy Clarke. This together with the hysterical comedy of Scott Wood will be our show in August. Please remember that if you live in Sun Lakes and want to see a show, you must be a member of Friendship Club.
