Call Mary Ann Ivey (The Sock Lady) 769-1095 Knitters & Fiber Artists We're into vacation mode this summer and that's a great time to be doing research on our ancestors. While traveling on these trips, maybe Virginia or Minnesota, try making some contacts with the historical societies in the areas where ancestors from the past resided. I know that I regret that a vacation trip to Ireland about seven years ago, although quite enjoyable, could have been incredible if I had known I was walking on the land of my ancestors. I was even in their home towns and had no idea. Now another trip needs to be planned to really delve into that green sod and realize what life was like for them. For our July 23 meeting, we will be guest hosting Nancy Carlberg. Nancy is a Professions Genealogist, an author of several books, a member of the Southern California Genealogy Society and a consultant and teacher on genealogy. Her topic for our meeting will be "Overcoming Dead Ends." We meet at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. All are welcome. Light refreshments served. Info., Ann Oliver, 769-5955. Genealogical Society There are so many Baby Boomers living here in Sun Lakes who fondly remember the Hippie Revolution of the 1960s. Remember "Don't trust anyone over 30…" Now it's don't trust anyone UNDER 30! "Sex, drugs and rock and roll!" Now it's "Sex… I read about that in 50 Shades of Grey - but for me it's more like 50 Shades of GRAY!" "Drugs… I have a weekly box that organizes all those for me." "Rock and Roll… I don't understand anything they're saying these days." When did we become our parents? Well, we've decided to take back our revolution! If you want to re-live times of free love and want to wear flowers in your hair, we want you to join us! We get together on the third Wednesday of every month for an old fashioned BE IN. Bring your drums and guitars, wear your beads and bell bottoms and be prepared to get GROOVY! Brownies optional. If you'd like more information, call Sheila at 909-797-3647. Peace man! Senior Hippies We will meet Thurs., July 7 at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Bring your questions and concerns. Membership dues are $20 dollars per year. We are on our summer schedule. We only meet on the third Thursday of July, August, and September. Last month's topic was wireless technology and a guest speaker from AVAST software presented their security free packages for computers, tablets and smart phones. Upcoming Program: July 17: Microsoft Office has be the Office Suite of choice for personal use and businesses for many years. The good news is there are other very good alternatives to the Office Suite and best of all they are free. Learn all about Open Office, Google Docs and Libre Office. There is even a free Microsoft Word Processor that has been built into your Windows operating system for years that Microsoft has never told you about.
