It has been such a source of pride to create a beautiful magazine for homeowners to enjoy and in which advertisers can showcase their businesses. When I started, my son Benjamin was just three and I brought him along to the Communication Committee meetings where he'd sit on the floor and color quietly while we proofread. We brought him to the Fourth of July celebration for years and he'd love seeing all the creatively decorated golf carts. He'd watch with rapt attention as the golfers competed in the putting contest. Now he's entering high school and just made the freshman basketball team and hopes to try out for the golf team in the winter — and maybe, just maybe, get a girlfriend somewhere in between. He has long having forgotten the hours he spent on the floor in the bus room. I've had the honor of performing on stage with several talented actors from Sun Lakes, as well as being bossed around by those who were incredible directors and stage managers. The best blessings are all the friends I've made over the years. Kathy and Raul were the first couple I became friends with… we met at Guy's Italian Restaurant, where Umberto put a tarp under Benjamin's high chair as he (Ben, not Umberto) often decided a better place for spaghetti was the floor. Bev and Carol, Marvin and Dorothy, Renee and Bob, everyone who has ever served on the Communications Committee (and everyone single one of them, without exception, has been outstanding), Audrey, Barb, Robert, Harriet, Tryna, Annette, and so many more, including those who write faithfully month after month for this magazine, have given me their friendship and insights. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity of spirit. Like most of us, I've also lost my share of Sun Lakes friends… Julie Jeffrey was the first in a long line of very strong and diligent Communication Committee members who taught me that mistakes are going to happen, to get over it, and that spending time with family was more important than anything. Don Ericson was a smart, strong Master Board President who, along with his wife Bobbie, became very close friends. Ollie Perreira and his wife Claudia were two people who devoted themselves to this community and who are missed as are Otis and Mary Cleaver. And most recently, John Machisic, with whom we were so lucky to visit one last time to say goodbye. In spite of the pain of losing friends, I'm blessed with the memories of so many great people who I am honored called me friend (and one scary memory of Don driving us to Los Angeles to have dinner at Lawry's, sitting in the back seat with Bobbie, where I was sure at any moment Don was going to plow us into a concrete pylon). Those who work behind the scenes here have been amazing as well. Michelle Weddell is on top of everything going on every day of the month and Tami Morgan is the smiling face of someone who is unflappable in the face of crisis. The entire staff is competent, caring and keeps Sun Lakes happily humming. Month after month, year after year, I have enjoyed hearing from the various groups and am continually amazed with the amount of energy concentrated within the walls of this very special 55+ community. I look forward to laying out the magazine, finding just the right cover, writing what will hopefully be a funny Joke of the Month, and really do love hearing from you with comments both positive and constructive. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to work with you as we create the Sun Lakes Lifestyles together. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next decade brings us all. With sincere gratitude, Courtney Fox Taylor tHaNk yoU FoR 10 gReat yeaRs!
