If you need a hint, think of a simple, one-story building with a huge parking lot that is nearly always filled. The store is near the casino and its name is Hadley's! The Hadley family, originally located in Banning, established the business in 1931. Since then, the business has really expanded, and has consistently specialized in providing a wide variety of nuts as well as dates. In addition to being high in nutritional value, nuts are enjoyed as snacks as well as ingredients in salads, cakes, and cookies. Dates are known for the delicious date shake that tastes so good on a hot day. They too are very nutritious and are a flavorful ingredients in many salads and desserts. Isabela Partida will be our guest speaker at the July 25 meeting, 11 am – 12 pm in the South Clubhouse. She will tell us about the Hadley family, the history of their business and the products that they promote. She may even bring samples. It will undoubtedly be a very interesting presentation; especially since the retail store is not well known, but has a long history and many pleased customers. Compared to Hadleys', Trader Joe's is the 'new kid on the block.' Joe Coulombe founded Trader Joe's in 1958. Its appeal was to people of moderate means that needed affordable, high quality foods and beverages. Trader Joe's has become a very popular business and its branches have been established in many parts of Southern California. Trader Joe's puts out a newspaper to acquaint customers with new products and provides samples of foods to tempt shoppers. Kristin Theotig, a representative of Trader Joe's, will meet with us Fri., Aug. 22, 11 am to 12 pm in the South Clubhouse. She will tell us about the mission of the business, it's marketing strategy, and what sets them apart from their competitors. You won't want to miss this interesting presentation – or the samples that she brings. Plan to come and find out why Trader Joe's is so popular. Bon Appetit! Happy Cookers Winners of the mini-show at the June Art League Meeting (L-R): 3rd place - Rosa Gascoigne; 1st place - Everett Inman; 2nd place - Nikki Corbett
