After high school he served in the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. After his term ended, Richard attended U.C.L.A. He was the Creative Director at several large advertising agencies in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas and was the recipient of several CLIO's, the prestigious awards given for creative advertising. Richard and Patti Brickner were married in 1990. They bought a home in Sun Lakes in 1998 and moved in full time in 2002 from Lake Forest, CA. Richard immediately became active in many Sun Lakes activities and he was an active golfer. He and Patti belonged to I.C.C., Young at Heart and the Dinner Dance Club. He served as President of the Lakeside II Board and also served as Delegate for that District. Richard will be remembered as being a very involved member of the Mystery Theater and Drama Club. He designed and helped build many of the sets for the productions of the clubs as well as acted in several of their plays. Richard is survived by his wife Patti, sister Suzanne Dunn, son Grant Brickner (Nancy), daughter Kari Macer (David) and two grandchildren. James Joseph Burke (May 1, 1931 – May 19, 2014) "Jimmy the Gent" passed away while on holiday in Laguna Shores, CA. At the time of his passing, Jim was very happy and his death was very quick. As with almost everything, he did it his way – no hospital, no prolonged pain. Jim had a voracious curiosity about people, places and things; he shared his knowledge with all who wanted to learn. He also had a fantastic and quirky sense of humor, not always "G-Rated," but it was always sharp and witty. His stories were full of detail so you could really experience the tale he was telling. He could calculate complex equations in his head. And he had a great love for Mexican food, shell fish, beer and chocolate. Jim started his life in Lancaster, New York and was Salutatorian of his 1949 high school graduating class. He served in the Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant; he attended the University of Buffalo and in 1957 graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical). In the late 1950s Jim moved to the Atlantic City area of New Jersey and then to Southern California in 1963. He worked in Aerospace in various capacities/companies, including Bell Labs, TRW, the Minute-Man missile program and other satellite projects. Jim was a helpful and valued neighbor. He was also a loner and very private. Best of all, I was privileged to have Jim as my dad. We all miss him very much. Jim is survived by his daughter Kathleen DeVine and two step-daughters Sandy Innocenti and Teri Rees-Fernandez, his extended family and his many, many, many friends. "Here's to Jim!" Kathryn Marie Reos passed away June 19 at the age of 88 at her home. She was born in Lexington, KY, on March 25, 1926, to Adrian Coyler Foor and Kathryn Alexandria Bourne. Kathryn married Cecil Ray Reos in Van Nuys, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage. She resided in Banning for 26 years, Newberry Park for eight years, and Van Nuys for 54 years. She worked as a bookstore owner for 12 years, and as a Ralph's bakery hostess for 15 years. Kathryn was a very generous person who loved being with her family. She was unselfish in so many ways. She will be missed for her strength of nurturing, words of wisdom, laughter, but most of all the beautiful women she was. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Ray Reos of Banning; her sons, Thayne Scoot Reos of Huntington Beach and Daniel Ray Pemberton of Banning; her daughters, Janice Kay Walsh of Banning and Tracy Lynn Fields of Fairfield, CA survive her, as well as her brother Theodore Foor; four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
