District EPAP Organizations did an outstanding job of locating the injured, assessing the severity of the injury, the degree of urgency for treatment and getting the injured transported to the most appropriate medical facility for their existing condition. The Highland Springs Medical Plaza (surgical staff ) received 10 patients, of which, they treated and released five to their to their private physicians, stabilized five critically injured patients and had them transported to the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital. The hospital staff received and "treated" 17 patients including the five who were transported from the Highland Springs Medical Plaza. Several were scheduled for emergency surgery, including one woman who was six months pregnant and had a severe head injury. (She must have been visiting her grandparents in Sun Lakes.) Overall, this was likely the most efficient and effective drill we have had in our 22 year history. The EPAP Management Group had established 33 specific objectives that we wanted to accomplish with the drill and all but four were achieved. It was almost exhilarating, while monitoring radio traffic, to hear Districts reaching out to Companion Districts for assistance with challenges they were facing and didn't have the resources to satisfy. That is exactly how we will have to interact to survive the real thing when it occurs. The judgment exhibited by District EPAP Teams, regarding the most appropriate destination for their injured was excellent. In a real life situation of this type, those judgments would have saved lives. In conclusion, this was a very good drill that while effective, highlighted a couple of opportunities to improve our performance. epap's 2014 DIsasteR DRIll DeemeD a sUCCess Our June 13, disaster drill was a hands on experience. We were able to rescue two dogs from a home where their owner was injured. Our staff came into the home, leashed the dogs and were transported by golf cart to the kennels. Thank you Steve and Marianne Kneass, Carol Kreckow, Helen Mattias, Willie Olmstead, and Jane Manson for helping with the rescues. Also thank you to my dogs Kasey and Bailey for their participation. Have a dog-gone good summer. EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE Homeowners and their pets have a successful disaster drill
