Summer reading is the ability to suspend belief, forget about the problems of the world and escape into the world of imagination through reading that special book you've always wanted to read but have put off for another day. Summer reading is that special mystery or love story by such famous authors as James Patterson, John Grisham, Dean Koontz, Debbie Macomber or Danielle Steele. The Sun Lakes libraries are full of light reading for the summer season… Come and borrow your book. The Book Fair, a part of the overall holiday celebrations of Independence Day at Sun Lakes, was a great success. We were able to clear much shelf space and make room for our newest editions. Many of you who bought a book surely asked for and received your free cookie! You can get another delicious cookie at the Fall Book Fair… I know that I can't wait. The library volunteers are a group of Sun Lakers who donate their time to keep our three libraries clean and organized and ready for you to visit and select your favorite book. If you would like to be a part of such a group, please contact Jill Falat at 797- 3263 and say "I want to be a volunteer." Thanks for caring! If you have any extra books that you would like to donate to the Library, please drop them off at one of the collection boxes located in each of the libraries. If you have any questions, contact either Peggy Inman at 845-8609 or Russ Anderson at 845-9414. Remember: Books being donated should be published in the year 2004 or later due to limited space being available on the shelves. Happy summer reading! Library Committee Restaurant & Lounge Committee Delightful Dining… Breakfast and lunch is now being served on the Veranda. Check with the hostess for the service hours. Before you take your seat in the restaurant, take a look at the display of yummy desserts for you to enjoy. We discussed the feasibility of listing the nutritional values of the menu items but concluded that there is no one on staff who has the expertise to do this correctly. So, residents need to use their good judgment in choosing their meals. We are recommending that heaters and misters be placed on the Veranda. Sun Lakes Marines and Friends: Sun Lakes Marines and Friends will have a barbecue for members and guests on Aug. 20, on the Veranda of the Main Clubhouse at 5 pm. Price for members who join by Aug. 13 will be $8 and guests will be $10. All Sun Lakers are eligible for membership. In addition to sponsoring the annual Marine Corps Birthday Celebration on Nov. 8, we also make charitable donations to veterans organizations providing support and services to military veterans of all branches of the armed services. Our Annual Birthday Celebration, traditionally held on Veterans Day weekend, also includes the recognition of all veterans during our program. Sun Lakers who would like to participate in a patriotic organization are encouraged to join us as we honor those who have served our nation. For details contact Pat Kahler at 769-6069 or Allen Thompson at 769-6765.
