A rousing mixed doubles tournament at the end of June saw
Steve and Sally Jo Schwartz become club champions. They beat
out Raul Solario and Tracy Galongo in the final match. Dave
and Peggy Huetten squeaked by Jim and Lyn Ball to take the
consolation round. Thanks to all the friends and fans who
showed their support. And thanks to Mike Galongo for a great
job as tournament director.
On Aug. 20 we have our monthly beer and pizza fest. Tennis
is at 5 pm and the aforementioned dinner is at 6:30 pm. Playing
first is not a requirement. Spouses, visiting relatives, and guests
are welcome. It's the best dinner deal in town for $5. Sign-up
sheet is in the South Clubhouse.
The quarterly club meeting and potluck dinner will be on
Sept. 13. Mark your calendars and make a note that this meeting
will be at the North Clubhouse. If you have agenda items please
contact a board member.
The weekly drop in group, the Thursday evening mixed
doubles drop in, and the first Saturday mixer are still going
strong. We finally found the missing radar gun so warm up your
shoulder, load up on testosterone, and be looking for a speed
challenge – date and format to be determined. If you feel like
being more of a spectator, your Sun Lakes ladies USTA team has
a home match on Sat., Aug. 2 at 8 am on the south courts.
Men's and women's doubles tournaments are scheduled for
September so it's time to grab your partner and do-si-do down
to the courts for a pre-tournament practice session or two.
