COMMUNITy NEwS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2014 5 By Cindy Graves There is something spectacular about an event where four handsome, bare-chested men come dressed in sarongs, carrying a huge Kaluah pit pig over their shoulders on poles! There are a lot of things that I've heard of with scantily dressed people and poles, but this wasn't one of them! The dinner-ready crowd went wild upon their arrival! Each one of these Four Season's residents (Randy Balt, Miles Hokuf, Chris Pike and Bill Guy) had just beforehand been educated on the particulars of this sacred Polynesian ceremony and yet they looked as if they had been pig-pall bearing all of their lives! When the roasted pig was laid to rest upon the caterer's carving station, the tender pork fell off the bones creating one of the most delicious Hawaiian entrees ever! A huge spread of steamed veggies, fresh fruit, sweet bread, fried rice and pineapple upside down cake completed the feast. After dinner the guests were all led outside in front of the Loggia fountain, where a beautiful, costumed, Hawaiian dancing girl, demonstrated a variety of island dances. Who knew that the human body could shake from the hips that fast? Then came the strong, wreath-headed Polynesian men, beating on their chests and limbs with odd, animated facial expressions; exemplifying tropical warrior dances. They definitely held the audience's attention! An invitation was given to those in attendance to come up to the front and give some of these dances a try… and sure enough our Four Seasons party- goers came up in droves, to try their hand at it. One of the funniest people up front was Melody Seewoster, the Social Committee event Chairman for the Luau. She had a long blond wig on, nude color leggings, flip flops and a knee length t-shirt with a string bikini body painted on it. Every time she shook and danced, the shirt wiggled in a life-like way in the wind. It was truly funny! The grand finale was the Fire-dancer, tossing the burning torches with his feet, up into the air, and catching them with his bare hands. Everyone got a kick out of the amazing theatrics! The night then concluded with returning to the Ballroom for dancing, door prizes and 50/50 winners. If you weren't there for this one, you really missed a fun event! Great job Social Committee and all those who helped make this event truly a "Hunka-Hunka burning Luau!"
