Cormier I don't know about you, but I can remember growing up in a time and place where the Fourth of July was a time for fun and celebration. It was an opportunity for neighbors new and old to meet and celebrate this great American holiday. I experienced that again during the first Fourth of July celebration for our newly developed portion of Four Seasons. This gathering included residents of the Colonnade and Springdale areas of White Sands, Signal Peak, Box Springs, and Broadriver. Initial planning for the event started in June with the Block Captain and Co-Captains on Signal Peak. Their intention was to foster a social event that would allow new neighbors to meet each other and mingle. This quickly expanded with the realization that Signal Peak had already lost its status as "new kids on the block" to Broadriver which, in turn, lost its status to the second half of White Sands which is currently finishing construction with some of the first move-ins just now getting settled. Box Springs, the first to be occupied in our area, was also added. With the addition of Block Captains for Box Springs and Broadriver, planning for the event took on a life of its own. The original intent was for approximately 65 to 70 people to contribute to the event. When all was said and done, 137 people contributed and attended. We were entertained throughout the afternoon by a live doo wop band playing music from the 50s and 60s. We enjoyed watching dancing in the street and singing along with the band. We were further entertained by participants in an old fashioned water balloon toss. Others enjoyed challenging each other to a round at the corn hole game. Still others enjoyed sitting back and relaxing, visiting with new and old friends while watching the day go by. All this while enjoying an amazing assortment of pot luck dishes and the best steak in the world, all prepared and donated by those who participated. The event was such a success that many participants have indicated an interest in seeing this become an annual event. Others indicated an interest in repeating the event for Labor Day in September. If you missed out on this one, let your Block Captain know that you're interested in attending the next "blast from the past." Broadriver Block Captain: Judy Maxwell.
