o you know that by donating a few dollars, that on One shining day in September, you can help bring some joy into the lives of several hundred homeless veterans? Do you know that at nearby March Air Reserve Base, some basic barracks style housing is being made available to these vets? Do you know that also nearby, hundreds more veterans and their families are in dire straits? For these folks, there are no "extras" in their lives. Your dollars will help provide a "little extra" on One shining day in September. Elsewhere in this issue there is more detailed information about this endeavor, what is being planned, and how you can help. If not us, who? If not now, when? We must, we can, we will! Do you know that much of the information provided in the Hemet Herald is composed by members of the various committees and clubs who work diligently to provide services and activities? They do the work then inform you. You only need to read to become knowledgeable. Do you know that you can attend Committee Meetings, as a guest, and listen to the deliberations? Check the monthly calendar in the center of this magazine for dates and times. There is simply no reason that when something new arrives on the scene, that residents should have to ask, where did that come from, or who made that decision? There is no great mystery about how projects are initiated, developed, and brought to fruition (or not)! Have you attended a Board of Directors meeting lately? Do you know that Resident Communication Forms are available to you at the Lodge front desk? When you feel it important to communicate your opinion, a suggestion, a concern or even a compliment to a committee or to your board of directors, use the form. Put your thoughts in writing and address them to the appropriate entity. You will receive a response. Speaking of communicating, you may have read or heard of what is being called the Lodge Plaza Remodel Project. Let's digress. The Lodge and its adjacent grounds contain considerable amenities. They were put in place by our builder/developer during 2004-05 and continue to serve us well. Over the years there have been suggestions to improve, add, delete or just change some things. In considering these matters, your board is taking the long view. We are working with the appropriate committees to develop a Long Range Strategic Plan. To this end, we have engaged the services of a professional architectural firm and provided it with numerous suggestions. We have also shared our vision, seeking a seamless blending of form, fit and function that embraces the entire centerpiece of our community. It is a work in progress and you will be kept informed as it unfolds. As with all the projects brought before your board, we are ever mindful that funding must be prudently allocated over time. Please know that your board remains focused on and committed to the responsible management of our community, not just for today, but for all our tomorrows. Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors: Tony, Ken, Greg, Ross, Russ & Carey.
