annoUnCEMEnt: We have been invited to provide opening tunes for the "Hotel California Eagles Tribute Band" on Sun., Aug. 3 on the Plaza. It is an honor and a privilege to be invited to this venue, and now our musical friends and neighbors will have a chance to hear what we've been up to. We would like to thank the members of the "Hotel California Eagles Tribute" band, as well as Janice Depew and the Social Committee, for allowing us this opportunity to showcase the Guitar Club. We have been practicing diligently, and are anxiously awaiting this performance. If you are attending, we're sure you will be familiar with our song selections and we know you'll want to sing along with us! This is our first big step outside the occasional TGIF performances we've done by the Fireplace. Our "road crew", Russ Brown, Al Chaney, Orville Ellingworth, Bob Hagen, Jerry "Hawk" Hawkins, and Mike Murphy have been our "go to guys" for our equipment set-up and sound checks. We hope you will enjoy our performance as much as we will enjoy performing for you! "We've come a long way baby!" We have grown so much from our first days of a few guitarists. Some members hadn't played in dozens of years, some did not know anything about how to play the guitar at all. Along with our harmony vocalists: Lois Cowan, Sandy Iannotti ,and Linda Negrete, we have also added a drummer, Al Chaney, and keyboardist, Gary Lewis, who add to the fullness and richness of our guitars. We also feature Bob Hagen on harmonica in a number of our songs. In addition to helping with set up, Orville Ellingworth supplements performances with a variety of percussion instruments. Our members are Russ Brown, Hank Callaghan, Al Chaney, Hal Clark, Lois Cowan, Cynthia Ellingworth, Orville Ellingworth, Bob Hagen (leader), Jerry "Hawk" Hawkins, Sandy Iannotti, Gary Lewis, Mike Murphy, Linda Negrete, and Bud Piraino. We meet on Fridays from 10 am to 12:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room. Cynthia Ellingworth is the contact at cynthia0430@verizon.net. On another important note: Many residents have said, "I used to play guitar." All of us in the Guitar Club have said, "Come on out, sit in with us." The response is frequently the same, "You are all too advanced and I wouldn't fit in." Well, here's your chance. Jerry Hawkins is going to offer new member introduction/re-introduction sessions. These lessons will be tailored for persons who have never played but want to learn basics, as well as those that used to play but forgot a lot and their fingers have softened. Jerry is not a guitar teacher. He's just one of us who wants to provide an opportunity to anyone who might be interested. There is no fee. Just respond to: Jerry Hawkins, (951) 926-2465. These sessions can meet before Guitar Club for an hour and we'll see how it goes. So, if this piques your interest, take a chance...call Jerry and let's play some music!
