9 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | September 2014 | Community Awareness Committee We meet the first Monday of each month at 3 pm. All residents are invited to attend the meetings and participate in our discussions. We can always use new members. As the economy improves, development around Four Seasons is heating up and we need people to follow the progress of these developments. If you are interested, contact Gene Hikel at (951) 223-3543 or email ehikel@msn.com. You can also come to any of our meetings. In September, we meet Tues., Sept. 2 at 3 pm (as the first Monday is Labor Day). At our August Meeting, we heard a presentation about a development behind the property across from the entrance to Four Seasons. We felt the developer was interested in building a quality development. The project, Emerald Acres, is a family friendly residential development including a five acre sports park, which will be owned and maintained by Valley Wide Recreation and Parks District. It will consist of single family detached homes and town homes with parks, trails, sidewalks and open space maintained by an HOA. We were pleased with the plans for the detached homes but had some concerns about the amenities for the townhomes. The developer indicated he would address our concerns in the final proposal. We are continuing our efforts to work with the Hemet Golf Course. We have sent a letter to the owners indicating we would like to work with them to improve the looks of the course. The owners replied that we need to work with the Golf Course Manager. We are in the process of arranging a meeting and will keep you posted. We are preparing for the "Great Shakeout" on Oct. 16 at 10:16 am. We would like to encourage everyone to visit the website: www.shakeout.org/california/ for details, information, and suggestions on how you can prepare and participate. Please consider registering to participate! We continue developing our Emergency Response Plan development and are improving our communications and mobilization processes. We want to thank all of you who have filled out a resident resource and information sheet. We are entering that into a database for future reference. We are always interested in identifying additional individuals with previous experience in medical assistance, radio communications, fire response, or public safety. We also need "scribes" to assist in record keeping and communications verifications. Everyone is welcome to attend our monthly EPC and Street Captains meetings (see monthly calendar). Also, contact us at hemet.4.seasons.cert@gmail.com if you are interested in being kept informed of our activities, even if you don't want to attend meetings. We also want to encourage all of our residents to be active members of Neighborhood Watch. This is a totally voluntary organization and does not have any official standing with the our HOA or its committees, but that doesn't in any way reflect negatively on its importance. We are our neighbor's neighbor, and as a senior community, there is an additional need to be mindful and supportive of each other's welfare and safety. As an aside, my wife, Judy, and I recently visited Oklahoma City and had the opportunity to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum and drove through Moore, OK. They were each the site of a major disaster: one was man- made, the other an act of nature. The experience was truly moving in the first case (the memorial), and inspiring in the second (Moore's continuing recovery efforts)! They both spoke to the need for Emergency Preparedness. Admittedly, taking efforts to prepare for something you hope will never happen may seem like a quixotic endeavor, but not doing so seems to be irresponsible and dangerous. Our Emergency Response Plan will include elements aimed at not only preparations for dealing with a disaster, but what it will take to recover from one. Emergency Preparedness Committee
