Open Letter, written by Artist of the Month
"I put a pencil in my hand; never had I drawn before. There
I was, 66 years old and feeling like a fish out of water. 'What am
I doing here?' I thought to myself. I looked at the drawings of
others, how beautiful their work was, knowing I couldn't draw a
straight line, even with a ruler. True! I had my work cut out for
me. I think I drove the teacher, Rob Kelman, crazy. I saw things
only one way and he worked with me. He kindly explained things
over and over to me until I saw things the correct way. A light
bulb would go off in my head and he could see that I got it. The
only problem was I would forget it (LOL), so I continued going
to the Drawing and Sketching class to draw, learn and be with
a group of great people, both men and women. I wish we could
extend the class to three hours, as the time goes by so fast.
Thank you, Rob, for your patience. Not only do I have a long
road ahead of me, so do you. I never intend to leave your class.
To those reading this letter, I will leave you with the words I
have been taught: if you can't see it, you can't draw it. Come give
it a try. I bet you will enjoy it as much as I do." ~ Marge Morris
