Now the year is just a number, tell us it is 2017, we'll probably believe you. The one thing that has stayed with us is the character of our beloved Sun Lakers. We are as thoughtful, friendly, respectful and helpful as any group of people can be. If we discount the small percentage of grumps, complainers and old people who don't have a good thing to say about anything, we have the greatest collection of nice people living here. It is about time we pat ourselves on the back for all of the volunteer work we do in the Pass Area community. There isn't a worthwhile charity or good works group or needy situation that you will not find Sun Lakers part of. We contribute two of our most worthwhile possessions, our time and our money. We have the same situation in our own complex. Five board members, 46 delegates and alternate delegates, a hundred or more advisory committee members all donate their time and talents to create a friendly, efficiently operated community. If that isn't a lot, we have another bunch of volunteers who run some 80 clubs and groups for the benefit of our residents. One would have to come to the conclusion that we were pretty smart to move to Sun Lakes and spend the rest of our days here. About now you are wondering why are we saying all of these nice things, when is the other shoe going to drop. Actually, we believe we deserve a big "thank you" from our own community and the Pass Area community at large. Most of us had no idea we would live in a place like Sun Lakes after we retired. When we moved in and got acquainted and began to find our way around, we became a member of a grand group of people. When we began to participate, our reward was the satisfaction of accomplishing something for the benefit of our neighbors and friends. When we hear —"you did a great job" or "nice going" or "thanks for your help" — you make our day, not that we want to be praised, but we like to hear someone appreciates our efforts to help out. There is always a need for more help, more volunteers. After participating for years, we need to be replaced by someone with new ideas and new energy. In the next month or two many of our advisory committees will need help, so will many of our clubs and groups. How about if you lend a hand, volunteer to help out in your favorite club or committee. We know there is a great pool of talent in our community, give us a small portion of your time, please. Hope you are staying cool along with your dog or cat. They tend to get hotter than we do on these hot days. Can you smell it? Our next semi-annual Biscuit Sales are coming in October. We are excited to let you know that we took in all your suggestions and listened! We have added to our menu Baked Buddy Biscuits Peanut Butter Flavor and also Soft & Chewy Tuna for Cats, with our original choices from last time of Buddy Biscuit Roasted Chicken and Soft & Chewy Chicken Flavor. So tell your furry friends they are on the way. Watch for dates and times of sales in the lobby of Main Clubhouse. Friends, we desperately need more help. Positions that we need filled are: three more people on kennel care. This means sweeping the leaves out of the kennel. We need someone to keep up with our progress by making a scrapbook. Our next meeting is Mon., Sept. 15. I will be demonstrating how to set a non-poisonous rat trap that you can purchase; it zaps the rat. In three months, I have caught 11 rats. Before you say, "You've got to be kidding" — it's easy and will not poison your pets. Anyone can do this. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. LOST DOG? If you see a lost dog or have found a lost dog that has no tags or phone number, call the Main Gate at 845-2163. They will call one of our rescuers who is on duty and that person will go and pick up the dog. I love rescuing dogs, but I am not always in town and if you leave me a message, I would not be able to help. Donations of dog beds, towels, blankets go to Helen Mattias at 6181 Solama Way, 797-0583. epap aniMal rescue
