16 | sun lakes lIfestyles | sePteMBeR 2014 | soCIal CluBs & gRouPs August dinner dance was a great way to get the new year off to a fabulous start. It's so nice to see so many members and their guests enjoy the evening of dining and dancing at our club. Our September dance should prove to be just as good. The dinner and dance will be held on Sat., Sept. 20 with music from one of our favorite bands, "The Sophisticats," from 6 to 9:30 pm. John and Rosa Gascoigne will be presenting the free half-hour dance lesson starting at 5 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to brush up on a dance step or two. Since September usually remains warmer, dressy casual is the recommended attire. The menu sounds delicious. We will start with a chopped vegetable salad on a bed of lettuce. The entrees are: (1) Sweet & sour chicken breast which will be served with green beans and a rice pilaf for $22; (2) Stir-fried veggies with rice pilaf for $18; or (3) Breaded and baked cod with green beans and a rice pilaf for $22. A refreshing dessert, lemon-raspberry parfait, will follow the main course. Sign ups for this dance will be held on Thurs., Sept. 11 at 2:30 in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Come early enough to have your paperwork completed by the time of the table selection at 2:30 pm. If you have signed-up but find that you are unable to attend, please contact Carol at 845-5962 before 3 pm on the day of the dance. She will see that you get your meal to take home and enjoy. Enjoy the wonderful life we have at Sun Lakes! Dinner Dance Club Big Band Dance Club presents "The Roaring Twenties" (costume optional) on Thurs., Sept. 4. Doors open at 5:30 pm; the music starts at 6 pm. Sign ups are Tues., Aug. 26, from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Dance price: $10 pp for members, $15 pp for guests; checks only, please. There will be bar service and appetizer menus on the tables for purchase. Bring check to early sign up or mail/drop off at 1298 Green Island St. This is such a fun night of dancing, listening and visiting with friends that you will not want to miss it. It is certainly a reasonable fee for such great music. Our July USO dance was a night to remember. Even General MacArthur showed up (thanks to our president Ted Grady). Tribute was paid to our veterans starting with a flag salute led by Jay Jesus. Rene and Patric danced the night away with all the single ladies and everyone had a great time. For further information contact Sheila Hammer, 845-0484 or Ted Grady, 845-0359. 2014 Schedule: Thurs., Nov. 6 – Black & White Ball. To all residents, did you miss our introductory dance in August? Well, that's okay. Our functions for the month of September will still be a good opportunity for any resident, singles or couples, to come and see what our club does and to give us a try. As a reminder, Country Western Dancing is for everybody. We are the only dance club that equally welcomes singles and couples. So you can feel comfortable to come learn a dance, have some fun and meet some other nice people. We start each year in September with "very beginning" line dance instruction and couples dance instructions. Instructions for the line dancing will be held on Mondays, Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 7 to 8:30 pm at the South Clubhouse. We ask a $2 donation for each lesson. As a special incentive the first lesson on Sept. 8 will be FREE. So, what do you have to lose? Come and give it a try. Instructions for couples will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 16 and 30, from 7 to 8 pm at the South Clubhouse. There is no charge for couples lessons. This month our dances in September are Fridays, Sept. 12 and 26, from 7 to 9 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We ask a $2 donation at each of our dances. Finally, we will have Mike Novak back as a guest DJ and instructor at our Oct. 17 dance. Mark your calendar. Info., Joe or Jean, 769-9148. Country Western Dance Big Band Dance
