soCIal CluBs & gRouPs | sun lakes lIfestyles | sePteMBeR 2014 | 19 We're back! The short sabbatical is over and we will be having our September business meeting on Tues., Sept. 2 just as planned at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom! Why all the excitement? It's because we're show people and the planning for our traditional "That's Entertainment" show in late February, 2015 is our focus. We've mentioned that we have selected a theme for our 2015 show; it will be "Guys & Dolls (& More)," not the exact replication of the famous Broadway show, but a show in similar Mystery Theater tradition as we have produced in our versions of "South Pacific" and "Oklahoma." The staged vignettes will be there, as will most of the music, and we will add the "& More!" Which brings us to a new topic in which we have enclosed the following message from our 2015 show director, Michael Owen, as follows: Can You? Would You Like To? I am looking for Sun Lakes residents who would like to be involved in some way with the production of "That's Entertainment 2015." Show dates are last weekend in February, 2015. Can you sing (outside of a shower!)? Can you dance (with or without the aid of little champagne)? Can you play a musical instrument (of any kind)? Would you like to perform one or more of your talents in our next show? Perhaps your talent/skill is in working backstage, front of house, set construction, costumes or makeup. Whatever your talent/skill, would you like to use it in our next production? Call me. Email me. Stop me in the street! Do all three if you like! Whichever way you choose to communicate, let me know what you have to offer. Want to know more about the show and other productions? Come along to our Sept. 2 meeting (you do not have to be a member and there's no obligation to join). I look forward to hearing from you. No, really, I do! Michael Owen (that British guy!), Director, "That's Entertainment 2015". Phone, 797-9041. Email: MOwenUSA@GMail.com. Mystery Theater & More August saw the superb violin and piano concert sponsored by the Drama Club performed on the stage of the Main Clubhouse. It was an outstanding success with the audience moved to a standing ovation at the conclusion of the varied pieces from the composers Beethoven, Chopin, Elgar, and Liszt. In addition there was a virtuoso performance of Schumann's Carnival Opus 9 by Kaoru Hagishima on the piano which included audience participation from attendees who chose selections from a list in the program. The reception at the South Clubhouse after the performance was an elegant affair with finger foods and various platters of fruits and cheeses all served by ladies and gentlemen of the Drama Club. It is being considered to move the concert to the winter in order to enable the performers to take advantage of the lower air fares over the summer timetable. The performers have over the past nine years paid their own way to Sun Lakes from Japan. All residents of Sun Lakes should keep the concert in mind as a winter highlight. We are now in the midst of rehearsals for the Autumn play, "Alone Together Again." The cast, under the able direction of Sallie Smelker with Sue Dunn as producer, has been chosen and includes Harriet Briant and Mark Faber, Fred Hanrahan, Rose Hermanson, Martie Steggell, and Betty Keeling as House Manager. This is a wonderful play about the entry of parents into the empty nest that a married couple has only just begun to enjoy after the departure of their last child off to college. Fun and games ensue for the couple and their parents as they attempt to cope with this new living arrangement. The play will hit the boards the last weekend in October… Oct. 23, 24, 25 at 7 pm and Oct. 26 at 2 pm. Tickets will go on sale in the Lobby of the Main Clubhouse on Oct. 6 from 9 am to 2 pm each weekday. Info., Rose Hermanson, 769-9810. Drama Club
