34 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2014 | CLUBS & GROUPS Our meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month at 1:30 pm. This year, the first Tuesday of September was the day after Labor Day and, for this reason, the attendance was not as large as usual. It turned out, however, that the meeting was one the best ever held because of the high quality of the three presentations and of the comments and suggestions they generated. Jean Lawrence, nee Laurin, made the first presentation: a personal travelogue about the Island of Curacao, illustrated with her own photos. By expanding this colorful view to other places in a region, it could become a successful tool to promote travel and prepare travelers to it. The second presentation was made by John Baeyertz, an engineer by profession and now, in retirement, a writer of science fiction. His novel entitled The Asking Price of Stars takes place in the far future and shows great promise to captivate the interest of readers. Last but not least came Phil Bond with the first chapter of a novel about two characters, Otto and Sarah, in a situation very close to our lives and very dear to our hearts. Phil knows the end of the plot but did not reveal it. We all want to know. Other kinds of writings, in different genres and for different purposes, will be presented in future meetings, starting with the next one on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 pm. ~ Joseph Laurin Writers' Club Seasoned Solos At the regular monthly meeting, plans were made for lunches at Claim Jumper and Tartans of Redlands, a movie night at the Fox Theater in Banning followed by dinner, the Scottish Festival in Oak Glen, and this year's final performance at our Amphitheater. Plans are being made for a day at Descanso Gardens in October. If you are interested in more information, please call either Monica at (951) 922-8805 or Mary at (951) 769-5444.
