11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | October 2014 | Crumbs from Cookie: It took a while, but I had Taryn Landscaping as our September guest speaker! Hemet is a real challenge when it comes to maintaining a yard that has beauty and be part of our solution for the California drought. Taryn designed our new rose garden. We need to learn as much as possible about choosing drought- tolerant plants. I hope you were able to make it. In October, Patti Meinhardt will return to speak about "that conversation" we need to have with our kids. What are our wishes when our time comes? Do the children know what we want? Is it written? We'll be with them for the holidays and it doesn't have to be a drawn out negative conversation. Hope you were there! November will find us enjoying Thanksgiving with our families. We're too busy cooking so no program! December will be the Four Seasons Christmas Celebration sponsored by Sunshine. January brings us back on board to find speakers covering a wide variety of subjects. All of this is successful because of you. To keep speakers coming we need attendance and it's there. Sunshine thanks you for your support. I would like to recognize a very important member of my team. She is my right hand and supports me in both Sunshine and our friendship — Donna Holland. We go back a long time. When I was forming a "working" landscape group, I needed someone to work hard and understand what I wanted to accomplish. I asked Donna to join me and together we formed a landscape committee. When Sunshine needed a new leader, I truly felt I should not be the one in charge. I wasn't good at handling death. I finally said I would try only if I could talk Donna into being my co-chair. Thankfully she said yes. When I cannot be there, Donna will take charge. And, she has worked hard at being our resource lady. Sunshine has a pretty complete list of what's available for us when we need help. We learned together how to visit a new widow or widower. We have cried together and with you as well. I find her to be of the highest caliber a woman can be; one who does not gossip and finds the good in everything she does. She is artistic and is never NOT busy! I thank you Donna for your support and all the laughter we have shared. You are to be admired for who you are. This has been a difficult few weeks for Four Seasons. Many tears have been shed and many hugs freely given. When someone loses a loved one, many are at a loss at how to show they care. We don't want to bother the spouse but this is the time to knock on that door and give that hug and say we are sorry. There will be tears but it is a time for tears. Please don't stay away. We send our love and sympathies to the Da Silva family. Judy lost her beloved husband, Timothy, in August. Tim was very active at Four Seasons. He served on the Finance Committee for years and loved to play cards. A wonderful Celebration of Life was held in the Ballroom at Four Seasons. His whole family was in attendance including his twin brother, Ed. I was unaware Tim had a twin and was taken aback meeting Ed for the first time. Judy sent Sunshine a donation in honor of Tim's memory and we thank you so much. We send our love and sympathies to Susan and Ed Watt. Susan lost her beloved mother, Annabelle M. LeSueur and held a Celebration of Life in their home sponsored by Sunshine. Susan shared some beautiful flowers from the service at the lodge for all to enjoy. The Watt's made a donation in Annabelle's name to honor her mother. Thank you so much. Our love and sympathies go to the Mosbach family. David lost the love of his life, Joan, in August as well. They were married for 52 years. Joan was one of triplets. Her family arrived from England for a Celebration of Life held at the Mosbach home. Our love and sympathies go out to Sheryl Gilbert and family. Sheryl's beloved husband, Gordon, also passed in August. A "standing room only" Celebration of Life was held in the Ballroom. An unbelievable 240 guests filled the room. Both Sheryl and Gordon were members of the prayer circle at Four Seasons. Gordon was a master carpenter and artist though he had no training in art. Gordon will be missed by many. For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our love and sympathies to you and your families. May rays of sunshine help you heal. Tidbits from Donna: October is Liver Awareness month. Acetaminophen is the most commonly used pain medicine in the U.S., but it's also the leading cause of acute liver failure. The American Liver Foundation partnered with the Acetaminophen Awareness Coalition to educate the public about safe usage. Check out this website! http://knowyourdose.org Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who needs assistance. Also, if you have knowledge of a friend or neighbor who is living alone, please let them know of the Healthy Elder Life Program 888-983-5337. They will assist in many ways, including daily phone calls. Also, our bulletin board in the Multipurpose Room has current contact and resource information.
