From The President – Henry Negrete: We are nearing the end of September and soon will be fast approaching the last quarter of the year. And what is the meaning of the final quarter of the year? Well, October is when we have deadlines to meet and it's never too late to get started. I speak of the end of the year and the time for all good members to come to the aid of their club. I mean step out of the shadows, stand tall and raise your hand. All you have to do is say "I do." In the last quarter of each year we have to begin planning the election of new officers and members of our club's board of directors. We have to make preparations for elections and the preparation of ballots. We also have to distribute the ballots, have our membership vote and subsequently declare the winners. You ask why so soon? This has to happen because there are procedures in place and we, as a club, must comply. All of the above has to take place in the last quarter of the year. This is the time we have to work feverishly to meet the requirements for electing officers for the coming golf season. The first order of business will be to establish a committee dedicated to identifying new talent. The next step would be to convince this new talent to accept a nomination. There may come a time when members of the selection committee will find it difficult to find members willing to accept the challenge but the effort must continue and the remaining members must hope for the best. I have no doubt that finding talented individuals will not be much of a challenge. I know from this year's experience that we have several members that are full of vigor and enthusiasm and appear ready to serve and to lead. But many will undoubtedly shy away from commitment. You must act if you are willing and you only need to raise your hand. You need not be the brightest star in the galaxy, but you will need to be charming. With charm as your forte you will be able to sing and dance your way to success. As a token of advice, you may consider other members to serve on a team of fellow board members to serve and support your effort. Keep in mind the positions elected are the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. All other positions are appointed. Now, just say, "I do." From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: To play in our Tuesday games, you may sign up at our prior golf event, or sign-up on the sheet located in the Game Room at the Lodge, by Sunday Noon. Should you have any questions please contact Ross Thomas, (951) 325-2019 or email rthomaspa@ yahoo.com From the Social Chair – Ellen Walsh: First of all I would like to THANK the club members who attended the Golf Club's Labor Day Barbecue. Without the wonderful "MASTERS OF BARBECUE," Kelly Collier, Cecil Frazier, Lynn Smith, Jerry Hobbs and Ross Thomas this event would not have happened. Eddie Day made sure the line proceeded swiftly, Cheryl Thomas was our cheerful greeter and Kaye Smith did an overall great job of supervision. John O'Connor also helped behind the scenes. Ross Thomas & Don Walsh purchased all the supplies and Francisco from our Bistro allowed us to store the food in his refrigerator/freezer. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Don Walsh for all his hard work. Be sure to save the date of Nov. 15 for our Founders Day Banquet and Awards Dinner prepared by Francisco of our Bistro and served in the Four Seasons Ballroom. Blair Becker has been very busy preparing a terrific slide show you should not miss. As they have done previously, Lynn Smith and Jay Robinson are busy gathering door prizes. Putting, chipping and driving contests will test your skill. Tickets will be available at the Front Desk in the Lodge and prior to golf starting on Tues., Oct. 14. The cost of the tickets for this wonderful affair will again be $20. You will be able to choose between a tri-tip, chicken or vegetarian meal. If you wish to drink a beverage other than coffee, iced tea or water you may bring it. Thank you to all! 29 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | October 2014 |
