Yucaipa OUR YUCAIPA | OCTOBER 2014 9 Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality. But there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit - a darkside. - Tales from the Darkside Yucaipa Goat's Head A Satanic cult is said to have set up a commune on a large property at the end of a winding driveway near Carter and Jefferson, east of Bryant. The occupants made many blood sacrifices to their deity. While it is not known exactly what took place inside, several religious leaders in town got together and, when no one was home, burned the buildings to the ground. The remnants — foundation, fireplaces, steps — still remain. It's fairly easy to spot from GoogleEarth as the trails on the property form the image of a skull. At night, a creature with a goat's head may be seen walking the driveway… looking for his minions. Gravity Hill There is a stretch of road on Oak Glen near the home of an old witch. According to legend, the witch put a spell on the road, causing a tragic car accident that resulted in the death of a group of teens. Some say that if you put your car in neutral on this hill shaped portion of Oak Glen, the group of ghostly teenagers will push your car up the hill, out of the cursed area, in an attempt to save you. Some skeptics call this an optical illusion, saying it's gravity at work. Others say it's spirits interfering, and claim that they have seen the steps leading to the witch's demolished house. Flaghill Park In the 1980s, a young, unknown woman was known to spend her day at this small park east of Bryant. She would sit under a tree and feed the squirrels, talking to them as if they were her friends. One day, she was found mysteriously dead near the cross that overlooks Yucaipa Valley. Park-goers now report seeing a young woman walking the grounds, followed by squirrels. When anyone comes near, she vanishes into thin air.
