sOCIal CluBs & gROups | sun lakes lIfestyles | nOVeMBeR 2014 |23 Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Let's take time to give thanks for all that we have. I am so thankful for the success of our Memory Care Group and all the people we are able to help. I am thankful for all the friendships I have made along the way and for the wonderful volunteers who help this group going. Thank you! Our next meeting is Thurs., Nov. 20, from 10 am to 12 pm at The Lakes. Please take note of our change of location for this month only. There will not be a caregivers support group following this meeting. We will have a separate room at The Lakes for your loved ones who usually come to the Arts and Crafts Room during the meeting. Our volunteers will be at The Lakes in the Lobby to direct your loved one to our room. As usual, we will have entertainment and games for them. If you have questions regarding this change, you can call Anne, 845-8700. Each November, we are blessed with a guest speaker from the Alzheimer's Association. This year our guest speaker will be Mr. Sergio Calderón, MPH, Regional Director Inland Empire Alzheimer's Association, California Southland Chapter. Mr. Calderón will be available to answer your questions and will speak on all the latest information from the Alzheimer's Association. Don't miss this powerful speaker. All Sun Lakers are always welcome to hear our guest speakers and attend a meeting. Come check us out. If you are new to our community and want to know more about our group, call Shirley 845-2008, Anne 845-8700 or Diane 769-0130. We have reading material we can loan you. Save the date: Thurs., Dec. 18, 12 pm, Holiday Luncheon at Victor's Restaurant. Food, friendship, and entertainment. Memory Care Group (Formerly Alzheimer's & Dementia Helpers) To help identify problems early, the Alzheimer's Association has created a list of 10 warning signs for Alzheimer's and other dementias. Here is Sign #4: Confusion about time and place. If they don't know what the date is or what day of the week it is, and do not remember later, then Alzheimer's might be the cause. Time loses its structure and the passage of seasons and months is not fully grasped. Occasionally, only those things occurring at the moment are understood and someone with Alzheimer's may find themselves someplace without knowing where they are and how they got there. What's a typical age-related change? Getting confused about the day of the week but figuring it out later.
