sOCIal CluBs & gROups | sun lakes lIfestyles | nOVeMBeR 2014 | 15 Join us on Nov. 9 for Maureen McGovern's "A Long And Winding Road." This performance will take Maureen's Audience back to the 1960s and 70s with early music from our generation's iconic singer/songwriters, including Carole King, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Webb, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Randy Newman and others. Maureen McGovern, whose career spans 40 years, includes recordings, concerts, theater, film, television, radio and songwriting, all with a voice that defies categorization. It is no wonder she has been called "The Stradivarius Voice." Her current PS Classics CD, A Long and Winding Road has been praised by The New York Times as "a captivating musical scrapbook from the 1960s to the early 70s. Ms. McGovern's vocal technique is second to none." In 2005, McGovern returned to the Broadway stage, originating her Drama Desk nominated role as Marmee in Little Women, The Musical and reprised her role in the 32-city first National Tour of Little Women. She made her Broadway debut in 1981 as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, starred as Luisa in Nine with Raul Julia and as Polly Peachum in 3 Penny Opera with Sting. Off Broadway, McGovern originated the role of Mary in Brownstone. She starred as 'Mrs. Anna' in the Broadway revival National Tour of The King and I. On Jan. 11, 2015, the Friendship Club will present "The Kingston Trio," still going strong after all these years. $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. In 1957, The Kingston Trio emerged from San Francisco's North Beach club scene to take the country by storm, bringing the rich tradition of American folk music into the mainstream for the first time. During the late 50s and early 60s, the Trio enjoyed unprecedented record sales and worldwide fame, while influencing the musical tastes of a generation. Members: $20; non-resident guests: $25.
