COMMUNITY NEWS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 13 By Leighton McLaughlin The procedure for electing an HOA Board homeowner member begins this month with selection of a nominating committee to find candidates for district delegate. Once elected, the eight delegates cast the votes that elect the Board member. The delegates act much like members of the Electoral College in U.S. Presidential elections — with a big difference. The delegates from any districts that fail to have a majority of households vote, can cast all the district's votes as they see fit. Homeowners interested in serving in this vitally important role are encouraged to apply before the deadline in January. The table to find your district is to the right. There has been realignment and your district may well have changed. A delegate and alternate will be elected from each district. The alternate acts only in the absence of the delegate. One of the three homeowner seats on the Board will be open in the election — that of Member Loren DuChesne, who is serving as Vice President/Secretary. President Jacque Sneddon and Treasurer Wayne Staples each have one more year on their terms. A four-member majority of the Board is appointed by builder K. Hovnanian Homes. That will continue until build-out, when all seven members will elected from the homeowners. The exact dates for the election process will be set at the December Board meeting, but the general outline is set: Delegate candidates must file in mid-January, a "meet the delegate candidates forum" will be held in February as will the delegates' election. The deadline to file as a candidate for the Board will be in March and ballots will be mailed to homeowners that month. In April the votes will be counted and the delegates will cast their ballots at the Annual Meeting shortly after that.
