36 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 | CLUBS & GROUPS For the past thousands of years, the number seven has been considered magic for portending good luck and success. How many things and people has history listed in sevens? Our last meeting was held on the 7th of October and it was a success for the quality of the presentations and commentaries. First, Jean L. Lawrence, John Baeyertz and Phil Bond, who made a presentation last month, gave a brief follow-up on their respective subject. Two new presentations were next on the agenda. They were of a totally different nature. First, Joan Nicholson read and discussed the opening pages of her new novel, still untitled. The scene is in a bar where two friends, Dan and Dugan, meet frequently. On this night, they meet a woman named Riley who starts off a predictable adventure. Where will it lead? The answer is still unpredictable. The second presentation was given by Henry Roberts, a physicist by profession. His wife Gail preceded him as a published author. Henry gave a fascinating lecture on linguistics and on publishing which generated many interesting questions and comments by the members. Members and non-members may attend the next meeting of the club on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Election Day, at 1:30 pm in the Lodge. Phil Bond will be the chairperson. ~ Joseph Laurin Writers' Club Seasoned Solos In October, we enjoyed brunch at the American Road Trip in Yucaipa, two different programs at the Redlands Forum, followed by dinner at Tartans Restaurant, an art show "Art for Heaven's Sake" at the Redlands United Church of Christ, lunch at the Market Broiler in Riverside, and lunch at Applebee's. Also discussed for the future, trips to LaBrea Tar Pits, Edward Dean Museum, San Bernardino County Museum, and Descanso Gardens. We welcome new members.
