| FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 15 Emergency Preparedness Program (EPP) The Emergency Preparedness Committee has gone online. Thanks to Eric Zarr, Euclid Management Assistant Manager, you can now access EPC and EPP documents and important links to outside resources. The most significant document you will find is the Resident's Emergency Handbook which everyone received in the mail or as a new resident. The Resident's Emergency Handbook is a wonderful guide to help prepare for and deal with emergencies such as earthquakes, hazardous material spills, wildfires and severe weather. The first steps in getting prepared are to read the handbook, make a plan, and fill in the medical and personal information card (pages 21-22) and emergency contact card (page 23). To access our page, log in to www.fourseasonsatbeaumont. com then click on "Board and Committees" on the left side of the page, then on the Emergency Preparedness Committee title in the Committee Members section. New information will be added on an ongoing basis, so check this page frequently to stay updated about the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Preparedness Program. ~ Avi Greene W I L D F I R E S We are now in wildfire season. At our October meeting, the Red Cross presenters provided the following handout to help guide a response to wildfires: WILDFIRE SAFETY • Listen to local radio and television stations for updated emergency information • Back your car into the garage or park it in an open space facing the direction of escape • People living near the fire should stay informed about the situation and be ready to leave their homes at a moment's notice • Have your "go" bag ready for immediate evacuation • Be cautious driving in the area - winds can unexpectedly cause poor visibility on the roads • Drivers should also watch for downed power lines and poles • Listen and watch for air quality reports and health warnings about smoke • People with health conditions need to take extra precautions SMOKE FROM THE FIRE • Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and door to prevent outside smoke from getting in • Use the recycle or re-circulate mode on the air conditioner in your home or car • If you do not have air conditioning and it is too hot to stay inside with closed windows, seek shelter elsewhere HEALTH CONCERNS • When smoke levels are high, do not use anything that burns and adds to indoor air pollution, such as candles, fireplaces and gas stoves • Do not vacuum because it stirs up particles that are already inside your home • If you have asthma or another lung disease, follow your health care provider's advice and seek medical care if your symptoms worsen
