SPORTS & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 41 Racquet Club It is getting cooler out so now is the time to get that body moving. Looking for a sport to play with your spouse? This is your perfect match. Pickleball is lots of fun and easy to learn. Come celebrate this exploding sport with us and enjoy the physical benefits that it brings. Pickleball is not only competitive, but is also a sport that is meant to bring people together. So, get out of the house and see what a paddle, a yellow ball full of holes, and some great people can do to put a smile on your face. We have extra paddles for you to try. If you have played tennis or racquetball you will easily slide into this sport. Group play times: T/Th/Sat., 9 am (NEW TIME) Many pickleball players participated in the Hemet Oldlympics events this year. We are very proud to announce the winners from our wonderful group. Pickleball: Womans Gold, Nancy Barnaby; Silver, Sue Barker; Mens Gold, Jesse Aceves. Woman's 1500 meter walk: Gold, Gracy Luna. Mens 1500 meter walk: Silver, Hilario Luna We are all so proud of them. Highlighting the special tennis competition of the July 4th Red-Blue team battle (Irve's team won!), the hosted luncheons in conjunction with Play Days, both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, and our neighborly matches at Sun Lakes, with reciprocal BBQs, Irve reminded all of us of the active and fun year shared by the Four Seasons Beaumont Racquet Club members. One of the business matters at the meeting was the renewal of annual club membership, and for a measly $20 members received their 2015 stickers for their badges and the prospect of another fun and food-filled year of tennis. Barb Miller arranged the catering for the annual meeting, which included salad, two kinds of lasagna, garlic toast, fruit salad, beverages and brownies. Fortunately, after another Racquet Club event featuring food (see recent Breeze articles mentioning how much we tennis players eat), the Saturday following the annual meeting was another Play Day, and we worked off most of the brownies. The competition at the Play Days has been kicked up a notch by Howard Nelson. In September he gave out tickets to the players for each game they won. The tickets were deposited in a poorly disguised Maxwell House coffee can until all play was completed. Arlene Malkin was selected to draw out the winning ticket. Suspiciously, she drew out her own, but nevertheless, Howard awarded her the first prize, a scarecrow bobblehead from Beaumont's new Farmer Boy's restaurant. The challenge ladder for Mixed Doubles was given the go-ahead. Seven teams are the initial competitors, but other teams can form up and join the challenge. The seeded teams are: Larry Z. and Padoo P., Larry and Bernadette M., Loren D. and Lovey C., Richard C. and Barbara M, Den S. and Jocelyn G., Frank G. & Arlene M., Lyle C. & Tina S. Teams make their own playing arrangements, and then report their scores to Barbara, who will post/record the scores and be the referee as needed. Meanwhile, social tennis will continue on the second and third Thursdays and the open-to-all Play Day will be on the last Saturday of the month. We're at www.fsbrc.org. Remember to vote on Nov. 4! ~ Steven Hovey
