SPORTS & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2014 45 Our club members have varied histories and choices of vehicles as can be seen by some of these photos. The common link between the members is the feeling of individualism and freedom that cruising in the fresh air on a motorcycle offers. Our weekly rides provide a time of peace and quiet while touring some of our local roads and enjoying the beauty of life in Southern California. Once we reach our day's destination the camaraderie we enjoy over breakfast or lunch is added to the day's pleasure. Some of the members participate in multi-day trips during the year which multiplies the enjoyment of the daily rides by the number of days in the trip. Imagine getting up in the morning and riding a motorcycle in the fresh air through some beautiful country, then settling into a comfortable motel late in the afternoon for some relaxation in the jacuzzi or pool with a cold beer or glass of wine while discussing the day's adventure before dinner. Then get a good night's rest and repeat the next day! Heaven! Our club meetings are normally held at 6 pm on the first Wednesday of each month in the Lodge Ballroom. Because of the busy end of year and holiday schedules of the members we will not hold meetings in November or December. Our next meeting will be Jan. 7, 2015. ~ Howard Lyon Motorcycle Club Rob Jack Bob Howard Steve Meier Ron Morgan Steve Sarchett Gordon Shepard Dan Lanphere Our monthly trip is always the third Thursday of every month. We meet in the north parking lot of the Lodge at 8 am. Our trip in September was to Rattlesnake Canyon. We entered from Highway 247 in Johnson Flats. We traveled about five miles through the canyon. The trail was windy and narrow with steep canyon walls. It was slow going through the rugged terrain. We observed several coveys of Gimbled Quail. When we reached the top at Mound Springs, we were surrounded by a very large stand of Joshua Trees. We passed by Farrington Observatory on our way to Pioneer Town where we enjoyed a great lunch at the famous Poppy & Harriett's restaurant. Anyone who has a four-wheel drive vehicle is welcome. Most of the trips are on State service trails designated as four-wheel drive. We do not do extreme off-roading. If you do not own a four-wheel drive vehicle, you are more than welcome to ride along.
