From The President – Henry Negrete: Our club recently made what can only be considered a bold decision to depart from traditional rules of golf to the newly recommended "Relaxed Rules of Golf." This was no simple task but it was a recommendation made by a prominent member of our club as a means to ease the pain and frustration for our senior members playing here at the Hemet Golf Course. Needless to say, the move generated an overwhelming response from our members. Many members spoke in support of the change stating that we finally had done something right for our members considering our club's senior status. Unfortunately, just as many members spoke against the change stating that we had simply issued "Licenses To Cheat" to those individuals already cheating and playing by their own rules. Well, I must admit, the level of concern demonstrated by our members forced your board of directors to regroup and adopt a new set of rules. Something like "Back To Basics" with a twist. Better stated, a modified version of SCGA rules – Modified Local Rules. These rules apply only for members of our club and only if playing here at the Hemet Golf Course. Now, it appears that most members are OK with the new rules. Not necessarily happy, just OK. We shall see. The issue here is not that the board made a mistake. Hopefully, our members will consider the fact that the board was listening to our members. The truth of the matter is that we were making another attempt at doing what we thought was best for our members. As always, our efforts remain focused on doing what is best for our membership – better stated, for the majority of our members. So, bottom line, I hope that most members understand that members of the board, those elected as well as those appointed continue to make every effort to do what is best for our membership. Having said that, I must also add that it goes without saying, not all actions turn out to be as intended. However, doing nothing for fear of making mistakes is definitely not an option. Keep On Hacking. Our membership remains unchanged. However, it is about time to prepare for our annual renewal of the club membership as well as the SCGA handicap membership. The club membership will remain at $30, but will become individual memberships, there well be no couple's memberships for next year, so each person will pay $30 plus $33 to the SCGA. Don't shoot the messenger this is a board decision. Look for a separate email in a few weeks.
