CLUBS & GROUpS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2014 37
Entering the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for the
first time is almost overwhelming. The friendly staff greets you
at the door. They ask what you're looking for, then introduce
you to an expert assistant who leads you to the materials that
are most likely to help – whether computers or books or films.
And then they help you do the actual research.
The five-story building itself is quite impressive, with a total
area of 142,000 square feet. For comparison, our entire Lodge
facility could easily fit within each level of this building. This
is said to be the largest genealogical collection in the world.
And there are 30 full-time professional staff and 600 trained
assistants to help you.
As if that's not enough, there are 500 computer terminals, 2.2
million rolls of microfilm with 30 readers, 300,000 books with
14 book copiers, and another 70 specialty copiers and readers.
There is simply too much to list here; it's mind boggling.
If you are serious about finding your family roots, this is
one place you won't want to miss, if possible, allow several days
there because you'll probably need it.
