Ghosts and goblins were tricks not to be seen but showers of rain were the treats on our scene. The half- inch of rainfall after the bewitching hour on Oct. 31 was gratefully welcomed by our plant life at Four Seasons. Along with the temperatures, our water consumption is decreasing. Our October billings reflect a 20 percent decrease over 2013. With great hopes that the drought is easing as we reset our sprinklers to twice-weekly spraying, our plants may weather the dormant season. Automatic sprinklers normally have three channels (A, B, and C). During the approved watering day each channel can be programmed to activate once). Due to the heavy clay in our soil three minutes per activation is recommended. For odd numbered houses Monday and Friday are watering days. For even numbered houses it is Tuesday and Saturday. This is a change approved by BCVWD due to our landscapers not working on Sundays. The approved hours are midnight to 8 am and 8 pm until midnight. All homeowners should be checking the outlet drains in their front yards. If they are full of water, this is an indication of over watering in their backyard. Watering on a rainy day may occasionally be the problem, but if this situation is occurring on a regular basis, please reduce backyard watering. Historically we have switched from night watering to day watering in the winter due to freezing temperatures in December and January. Due to the above restrictions this will not be possible this season. Early morning walkers are urged to be careful of slippery surfaces. November marked the start of biweekly lawn mowing. Holiday decorations in lawn areas are permitted but these lawns will not be mowed to avoid damage. Any electrical cords in planter areas should be visible to landscape workers. October seemed to be the season for plant vandalism. Recently two young pine trees on the corner of Plymouth Rock and Four Seasons circle had their crowns cut off to stunt their growth. They will, of course, be replaced. Reminder: Wheeled vehicles are currently not allowed on trails. ~ Leonard Tavernetti 18 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2014 | COMMUNITy NEWS Landscape Committee
