34 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2014 | CLUBS & GROUpS Counter Culture Cinema Due to the holidays, we are only having one screening in December. Our December screening, on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 6 pm, is the film The Railway Man (USA 2013, 116 minutes). Here is a brief description from IMDB.com: "Eric Lomax was one of thousands of Allied prisoners of war forced to work on the construction of the Thai/Burma railway during WWII. His experiences, after the secret radio he built to bring news and hope to his colleagues was discovered, left him traumatized and shut off from the world. Years later, he met Patti, a beautiful woman, on a train and fell in love. Patti was determined to rid Eric of his demons. Discovering that the young Japanese officer who haunted her husband was still alive, she faced a terrible decision. Should Eric be given a chance to confront his tormentor? Would she stand by him, whatever he did?" All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge theatre has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early - we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen My goodness — Christmas is almost here. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a great Christmas. Our Christmas dinner/dance is Saturday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 9:30 pm, just days away. Clauzeila, Cookie, Daisy, Wanda and I are feverishly working to put the final touches together. It is going to be great! The event is sold out, but we are taking wait lists, because we know "Murphy's Law" is always in play and will cause last minute cancellations. So please contact me if you want to be put on the wait list. It's a good chance you will clear. We want as many of our community to attend as possible. It will be a Christmas memory you will cherish forever. Tickets are $50 per person. Info., Roxie Elliott, (951) 769-2517. The evening of Christian & Gospel music is also coming together. If you have a talent (singing, playing the piano, praise dancing, etc.), come and be a part of this event. There is still time to sign up. The date is Sunday, Feb.8, 2015. It is a FREE event. Everyone in our community is invited to attend and to share their talents. Help make this event an evening to renew your spirit and warm your soul. If you are interested in performing please contact Cookie Bonner, (951) 769-7679. More to come. Our last meeting of the year is Monday, Dec. 1, at 6 pm in the Card Room at the Lodge. We encourage all members to attend. We will be discussing our agenda for 2015. Many decisions will be made and we want your input. A group is only as strong as its members. Members are strong and will participate only when they feel their ideas are heard and incorporated. Please be there. We are striving to be a productive part of our community and are always open for new members, encourage new ideas, and encourage your participation. Contact Betty Ann James (951) 572-5538 for more information. Come and join us. ~ Roxie Elliott African American Culture Club
