This month you get your choice of either Apple or Chocolate Cream pie topped off with whipped cream if you would like and your choice of coffee or tea for only $3. The Recreation Department is proud to continue its yearly tradition of Activities Day! Each year all of the active clubs, groups and recreation get together to show you what Sun Lakes has to offer. Want to join a new club, want to know exactly what the Young at Heart Club is all about. Want to learn how to play 8-ball or bocce? How about trying your hand at acting… well this is the event for you! Mark your calendars and bring your neighbors and friends! harBOrlites chOrus: Sun., Jan. 25 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, 3 – 4:30 pm, $10 pp. Join the two-time International Champion Harborlites Chorus for an afternoon filled with incredible music! Based in Anaheim, California, the Harborlites Chorus was founded in 1960 as a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Their membership includes women of all ages and backgrounds, including students, CEOs, moms, teachers, nurses, air traffic controllers, lawyers, voice instructors, former ballerinas, regional and international quartet champions, and women new to the art of barbershop singing. Under the direction of their gifted director, Pam Pieson, Harborlites has grown both in numbers and recognition, winning both Regional and International Chorus Championships. Their performances incorporate exceptional singing along with innovative choreography, plenty of heart, and their trademark: energy! aBBafaB: a triBute tO aBBa: Sun., feb. 15 at 6 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, $10 pp. ABBAFAB is a stunning tribute to the music of ABBA featuring the sensational Anne Davies, Chelsea Faulds, Scotty Pearson, Nick Davies and a lineup of stellar musicians. This multimedia production is a tribute to some of the greatest music produced in the 1970s and 1980s including monster hits such as Waterloo, Fernando, Honey Honey, Dancing Queen and countless others. From the earliest hits to the hit movie Mamma Mia, ABBAFAB will take you on an ABBA journey that is unmatched. ABBA's record breaking string of hits is timeless and continues to thrill audiences of all ages. There's no generation gap here; just memorable music and memories and ABBAFAB covers them all. There's no doubt that the ABBAFAB vibe is infectious! Their vocals and musicianship are second to none. ABBA fans love it and new ABBA fans are created at every show. Come on along for the ride and enjoy the time of your life with ABBAFAB! Tickets go on sale Wed., Dec. 3, at 8 am. District tree Lighting Mon., dec. 1, 5 pm. Join the Recreation Department for a holiday kickoff! We will light the decorated District Christmas Trees in the front of the Main Clubhouse. Afterwards, come in the Ballroom for hot cider, hot chocolate, cookies, and holiday entertainment provided by Barber Shop Chorus, Tap Dance, Makua Hula Hawaiian Dance, Precision Stardust Dancers, and a special performance from Spectrum Dance Studio in Beaumont. We will even be lucky enough to get a surprise visit from good old Saint Nick himself. So make sure you stop by to get your picture taken with him and let him know what you want for Christmas. Gifts will be delivered to families on Tues., dec. 16. If you have not received information from your District Delegate about the family that your district has chosen as of yet, please make sure you contact your Delegate. This is a wonderful program that the Sun Lakes community has taken part in for many years and takes pride in doing. All gifts donated by the Districts should be dropped off to the bus room by 12 pm on Tues., Dec. 16 so that the gifts can be delivered to the families. If you would like to volunteer to deliver gifts, please stop by the Recreation Department to put your name on the deliverer list. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Recreation front desk. wed., dec. 31, 6:30 pm – 12:30 am. Mark this spectacular evening down on your calendar! The Annual New Year's Eve Party is coming around the corner. This year we will have the "Sophisticats" joining us in rocking the night away and ringing in 2015. You will start your meal off with some fresh baked rolls and a house Caesar salad with Caesar or Italian dressing on the side. The main course will consist of Surf N' Turf with a top sirloin streak and two bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp. This will be accompanied by garlic roasted mashed potatoes, lemon pepper asparagus and fingerling carrots. You will then finish up with a slice of cake for dessert. To top things off you will also be able to enjoy a champagne toast when the clock strikes twelve. It's a wonderful, unforgettable evening of dancing and fun that you won't want to miss out on.
